JOB SUMMARY:

Within the context of a client service culture, position transcribes and types a variety of medical dictation and other documentation such as surgical, forensic, cytology and autopsy reports, medical consults, clinical histories, gross descriptions and correspondence utilizing a digital dictating system and/or basic word-processing software. Position also performs functions such as responding to work status enquiries, photocopying, faxing and distributing reports in accordance with established procedures as required.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Grade 12, graduation from an approved program in Medical Transcription plus one year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Ability to type at 60 wpm.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal with others effectively.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to operate related equipment

Responsibilities
  1. Transcribes and types a variety of medical dictation and other documentation such as surgical, forensic, cytology and autopsy reports, medical consults, clinical histories, gross descriptions and correspondence by methods such as receiving work requisitions, typing designated material utilizing a digital dictation system and/or basic word-processing software, editing output for accuracy and forwarding completed documents to designated staff for approval according to established departmental procedures; makes report corrections as required.
  2. Responds to enquiries related to work status by methods such as checking computerized dictation system for document status and providing information regarding originating date, time completed/time to be completed in accordance with departmental standards.
  3. Photocopies, faxes and distributes material such as reports for personnel within Pathology & Laboratory Medicine by receiving items for duplication and operating photocopying or facsimile machine as required.
  4. Performs other related duties as assigned.
