Our work takes place behind the scenes—but it plays a critical role in helping families understand the cause of death and gain closure. As we grow, we’re looking for a responsible, composed, and respectful individual to support one of the most sensitive parts of our work: professional, compassionate transport. About the Role This isn’t just a driving job. As a part-time, on-call Medical Transport Driver (Pathology) at EPIARX, you’ll be responsible for transporting the remains of deceased individuals between funeral homes and EPIARX’s laboratory, ensuring each transfer is handled with professionalism, care, and respect. You’ll serve as the calm in emotionally charged situations—handling people and logistics with professionalism, discretion, and care. This role involves driving a company transport van across the DC metro area (and occasionally beyond). Prior professional driving experience is required. Guidance and support are provided for staff who are new to autopsy transport procedures. This is an on-call position with variable hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and short-notice requests. What You’ll Do Safely transport the deceased between designated locations (homes, hospitals, funeral homes, etc.) Interact with families, funeral staff, and EPIARX staff in a respectful, professional manner Keep the transport van clean, well-maintained, and stocked with supplies Assist with transferring individuals from trays or gurneys as needed Coordinate release and receipt processes, including light administrative documentation Ensure documentation and timely submission of invoices to EPIARX billing staff Respond to on-call transport requests, sometimes on short notice Occasionally support longer-distance transports, including overnight assignments Requirements What You Bring High school diploma or equivalent (required) Clean driving record and ability to pass a background check and drug screening (required) Prior professional driving experience (required) Prior experience with medical, healthcare, autopsy, mortuary, or funeral home transport is highly desirable Comfort working in close proximity to deceased individuals Physical ability to lift, push, and move gurneys safely and respectfully Calm, professional demeanor in emotionally sensitive situations Strong reliability, discretion, and attention to detail Ability to work independently Basic comfort with email, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office (required) Who Thrives in This Role You are someone who: Remains composed and courteous under emotional pressure Takes pride in meaningful, behind-the-scenes work Values professionalism, respect, and service Prefers a focused environment and flexible, on-call scheduling How to Apply Please submit: Your resume A brief cover letter explaining: Why this role interests you Your general availability for part-time, on-call work (including evenings and weekends) Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
