SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Medium Caliber Ammunition Specialist to support the Specialized Munitions Division at Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane, IN. Job Description: SAIC is looking for a dedicated Ammunition Specialist to provide critical technical and programmatic support for ammunition and weapon systems. The selected candidate will lead Engineering Investigations (EIs), Ordnance Assessments (OAs), and Product Improvement Plan (PIP) efforts from planning and testing to analysis and reporting. This role requires expertise in ammunition and energetics, leadership skills, and project management experience. Job Responsibilities: Conduct investigations and evaluations of ammunition, gun systems, and supporting equipment at incident sites Draft, maintain, and ensure compliance with Standard Explosive Operating Procedures (SOPs) Develop Test Plans and Statements of Work (SOWs), including cost estimates Prepare and manage test exhibits, schedule evaluations with facilities, and oversee test execution Analyze EI, OA, and PIP data to develop recommendations Create final reports with findings, conclusions, and actionable recommendations Present updates to stakeholders through monthly trackers and status reports Review and evaluate technical documents, recommending dispositions to government stakeholders Maintain and organize file archives for projects, supporting inquiries from Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) Act as a subject matter expert in ammunition testing and provide recommendations to the government Assist the Test & Evaluation (T&E) lead with qualification efforts and ensure action items are completed Develop and manage OA test plans and review inventory data for appropriate test samples Identify areas for improvement and contribute to future PIP strategies Required Education and Experience: HS/GED and 9 or more years experience 5+ years of experience in ordnance systems, ammunition testing, program management, or technical analysis Knowledge of medium caliber weapon systems, gun mechanisms, and ammunition test and evaluation Experience developing SOPs, test plans, and technical reports Strong project management and leadership capabilities Ability to manage and organize technical file archives Interim clearance required to start and must be able to obtain a DoD Secret clearance. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process US Citizenship required Desired Qualifications: Degree in engineering, applied sciences, or related technical field Familiarity with Medium Caliber Ammunition Programs and associated GFE/GFI Experience with ammunition-related testing and post-test analysis Skills in creating analytical reports for technical and non-technical audiences Military or government contracting experience in logistics or program management Additional Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Excellent communication skills for technical writing and briefings Familiarity with military ammunition testing processes and T&E methodologies Logistics experience managing test activities and operational plans Willing and able to travel 3–4 times per year for investigations, test readiness reviews, and program meetings
