Description:
The Union, Calgary Board of Education Staff Association (CBESA) seeks a proactive and skilled Member Services and Labour Relations Officer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering productive relationships with the Calgary Board of Education (CBE), providing representation to 5000 union members, ensuring adherence to collective agreements, and promoting fair employment practices within the Calgary Board of Education (CBE).
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor’s degree in Labour Relations, Human Resources, or a related field.
- At least 5 years experience in labour relations or collective bargaining, preferably within a unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta labour laws, employment standards, and dispute resolution processes.
- Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation, grievance management, and labour arbitration.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including union members, management, and external legal counsel.

Responsibilities:
- Collective Bargaining: Actively participate in negotiating and implementing collective agreements.
- Dispute Resolution: Mediate and resolve labour disputes, grievances, and conflicts per applicable labour laws and collective agreements.
- Advisory Role: Provide strategic advice to the CBESA Board, members, and management on labour relations matters.
- Advocacy and Representation: Represent the CBESA in labour hearings, arbitrations, and negotiations. Advocate for members in employment-related concerns and legal proceedings.
- Training and Education: Educate members on collective agreements, rights, and obligations. Conduct training sessions and workshops on labour relations best practices.
- Compliance and Reporting: Ensure compliance with provincial labour laws, employment standards, and collective agreements. Prepare detailed reports and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
