Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,500

POSITION SUMMARY

The Membership Associate supports the Center’s 90,000 members and 1,800,000 supporters by following best practices in nonprofit member stewardship, gift entry and donation processing. The Membership Associate interacts daily with members, donors, and activists to share information about the Center’s work, and engage them to build community, increase their support and strengthen relationships. This position communicates and collaborates with other development, membership, leadership, finance, conservation and communications staff to fulfill their role in keeping Center members and supporters engaged and appreciated. There are seasonal periods of increased intensity in this role’s work tied to spring, year-end and ad hoc fundraising campaigns.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • 3-5 years of work experience ideally in a fundraising support, administrative, clerical or customer/sales service setting;
  • High attention to detail, organizational skills, and accuracy in completing complex tasks while under time pressure;
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently both individually and in a team;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills;
  • Skills in active listening, and ability to have empathetic conversations about topics including plants and animals, the natural world, biodiversity and environmental justice.
  • Ability to be creative and problem-solve to make data entry or record keeping processes more efficient, while maintaining accuracy;
  • Solid knowledge of spreadsheets and mail merge functions;
  • Ability to work 40+ hours per week.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Experience in sales, organizing, canvassing, customer service or fundraising;
  • Experience with databases such as EveryAction, NGP VAN, Revolution Online (ROI), Microsoft Access, Convio, Blackbaud, Salesforce or other fundraising databases;
  • Experience sending bulk emails with GroupMail or other similar listserv software a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Engage with members, supporters and prospective members to strengthen relationships and provide a human voice for the Center;
  • Provide warm, helpful and timely support to members, including researching and drafting informed responses;
  • Be in direct contact with members via phone, email and online to answer questions about donations, membership and the Center’s work;
  • Open and process members’ mailed and online donations;
  • Regularly update and maintain member information across multiple databases, and perform other data hygiene and maintenance procedures;
  • Participate in and contribute to strategic efforts with the membership team to improve its operations, efficiency and support of members;
  • Support the operations of the development and membership program through a variety of activities and tasks including filing, donor research, preparing merchandise orders and other tasks as assigned;
  • Prepare donation acknowledgments and other thank you correspondence on a weekly basis;
  • Write content for acknowledgment letters, thank you cards, and other membership projects;
  • Regularly manage special development projects completed by the Center’s loyal volunteers;
  • Track incoming stock donations and other major gifts, and confirm gift details with development leadership;
  • Ensure donor and supporter identification, information and transaction details are kept confidential, both internally and externally;
  • Provide support for workplace giving and employer match programs through responsive communications with members, and complete timely and accurate applications with various local and federal agencies;
  • Help with the production of fundraiser mailings during spring and year-end fundraising campaigns as needed;
  • Assist with phone outreach to members during fundraising campaigns;
  • Assist at occasional in-person events and gatherings;
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
