COUNSELLOR REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of/or willingness to learn trauma-informed care as it relates to addiction and mental health
  • Counsels clients and patients, individually and in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, and making changes
  • Proficient knowledge of applicable principles of trauma informed and culturally safe practice
  • Refers patient, client, and/or family to community resources to assist in recovery from mental or physical illness
  • Degree in Counselling, Psychology, or related Social Service field
  • Proficient with MS Office Word and Excel
  • Valid Driver’s License and willing to submit drivers abstract
  • Strong people skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Responsibilities

COUNSELLOR ROLE:

Clinical Counsellors will provide holistic trauma-informed counselling and advice to individuals struggling with substance abuse, mental health, gambling, eating disorders, and other related issues. They also conduct group therapy sessions and develop prevention programs.
To be successful in this role you need to display strong leadership and traditional knowledge background

COUNSELLOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing culturally appropriate support services
  • Focusing on specific Mental Health and Substance Abuse and/or related issues defined by the person
  • Provide short term direct intervention
  • Increase critical needs and decrease barriers to services
  • Attending regular meetings with a multidisciplinary team
  • Ensuring compliance, accuracy, and quality of clinical documentation
  • Collecting data as per Contract Agreement and adhering to the reporting requirements/measurements of success using the reporting tools provided
  • Assist with therapeutic approach to mentorship, mental health support and system navigation
