JOB DETAILS:

Job Description
We are seeking to recruit a number of passionate, knowledgeable and thoughtful practitioners to join our Student Success and Support team. You will work as a member of a team of mental health and wellbeing practitioners who support students who are experiencing emotional or mental health difficulties or who are experiencing significant life stressors such as domestic abuse or bereavement that are impacting on their ability to engage in safe and successful study.
As a mental health and wellbeing adviser, you will work collaboratively and compassionately with students to understand their experience and to suggest interventions and strategies to improve their circumstances. You will guide students through available interventions within and beyond the university including statutory and third sector specialist organisations. You will be confident in risk assessment and management, taking a proactive and positive approach to managing student cases where there is risk to self, risk to studies or occasionally risks to the wider community, and enact appropriate processes (such as Support to Study) when necessary. You will liaise with external support providers such as GPs, NHS Mental Health teams and Social Services regularly and ensure that students are linked in with appropriate support based on their needs. You will act as a first point of contact for student and staff referrals via our Care and Concern referral pathway, making timely contact with students where they raise a concern about themselves or when other members of the MDX community raise concerns. Where students meet the threshold for reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act, you will ensure disability support is offered to students, and working closely with other support teams you will provide proactive, assertive support to maximize positive student outcomes in continuation and attainment. You will work in a collaborative, student-centred way to unpick and resolve complex and multi-issue challenges with students and colleagues across the university, ensuring students are informed and empowered to make the right decisions for them.
If you have any questions or would like to informally discuss the role please contact Annie Jennings, Director of Student Life, via email at: a.jennings@mdx.ac.uk
