JOB SUMMARY AND QUALIFICATIONS

The Mental Health Clinician II – Intake will deliver exceptional psychiatric services to patients and their loved ones. The position prioritizes patient experience by offering patient-centered and high-quality care. The responsibilities include performing psychiatric assessments and care coordination in the emergency department and telehealth settings. This role provides positive outcomes for patients by making level-of-care determinations, and facilitating transfer and safe discharge.

What you will do in this role:

  • Maintains effective communication with patients, families, multidisciplinary teams, and continuum of care providers.
  • Maintains professionalism and uses good communication skills to interact with peers, staff, patients, and families, and resolve conflicts.
  • Upon referral, conducts psychiatric assessment, and/or involuntary commitment evaluations for patients with significant mental health symptoms to including suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, psychosis, and substance abuse, to determine appropriate level of care.
  • Conducts commitment evaluations and coordinates involuntary commitment process for patients who present themselves in the emergency room who meet criteria.
  • Upholds reporting requirements to community/state agencies in accordance with state and federal law.
  • Under the direction of the physician, facilitates admissions to inpatient facilities, including the completion of all necessary documentation and commitment paperwork, and maintains up-to-date knowledge of community resources in order to provide appropriate discharge planning when appropriate.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to maintain clear professional boundaries with peers, patients, and families.
  • Reviews, coaches, and helps with the training of new staff/interns as assigned within approved practice and program guidelines. Participates in developing department goals and clinical programming.
  • Enhances professional growth and development by participating in related activities.

What Qualifications you will need:
EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Ph.D. in Psychology or other equivalent degree in a recognized mental health field
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 2-4 years post graduate experience in mental health
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Ph.D Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist, or other appropriate licensure as related to education. Once eligible, must have State 1st Evaluation Credentialing, be a Notary, and be BLS and CPI certified.
