Description Position Summary In partnership and guidance from Mental Health and Development Specialist assist instructional staff and parent(s) in creating, executing, and monitoring, behavioral and/or developmental support strategies for children with suspected or identified needs. As needed work in partnership with Mental Health and Rehabilitative Consultants supporting parents, and staff to determine if a Comprehensive Evaluation from Special Education department at Local Education Agencies is required. Assist instructional staff and parent(s) with the implementation and achievement of Individualized Family Services Plan (IFSP) or Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) goals. Report directly to MH and Inclusion Specialist. Job Function Design, implement, coordinate, monitor and evaluate a comprehensive plan responding to each child’s developmental or behavioral needs, in collaboration with the child’s Parents(s), Teachers, Consultant and other Head Start support staff. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Disabilities Head Start Program Performance Standards, and the IFSP (Individual Family Service Plan) / IEP (Individualized Education Program) process. Assist in the monitoring and tracking of students who qualify for special education, create monthly reports and data as necessary, and maintain records to guarantee compliance with Individual Education Plans. Schedule, throughout the school year, Rehabilitative and Mental Health Consultants to visit centers and perform screenings/ classroom observations as needed. Maintain effective and timely writing and oral communication with all consultants and supervisor Aid staff with children exhibiting atypical behavior and/or developmental delay assist staff in identifying children with suspected delays. Assist in providing support in the classroom to students with behavioral concerns and/or suspected developmental delays. Assist in providing transition services to students with special needs or disabilities. Assist in providing assistive technology to students with special needs or disability Provides IFSP/IEP Training to staff Serve as an advocate for the family and child when a referral is made to the school district. Maintain a current directory of local rehabilitation and mental health service providers. Makes referrals to appropriate agencies and follows up. Maintains and assists staff with the necessary updates when a referral is made. Facilitate team meetings with the identified student’s teachers and parents to complete a Functional Behavioral Assessment. Facilitate (MDT) Multidisciplinary Team meetings that: design Behavior interventions Plans; address classroom organization, effective instruction, social skills instruction, and ethical issues. Engage parents in the “student behavior intervention plan” process and empower parents by providing them with skills and techniques to support the positive behavior development of their child. In a timely manner and in collaboration with teachers and other staff. Arrange the administration of the developmental screenings before the 45th day of children entering the program. Perform other duties assigned. Requirements Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Special Education, Social Work or a related field. Preferred: Master’s Degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field. Experience Required: One (1) year experience in early childhood development, special education, or social services to children and families. Preferred: Two (2) years’ experience in providing mental health/health, disability services or social services to children and families. Other Preferred: Bilingual English/Spanish
