The Mental Health Family Advocate will work in collaboration with the Children Services Mental Health (CSMH) team to provide strength-based support with community resourcing, crisis stabilization, coaching, support, and education for identified families with complex needs. Meetings may occur in the office setting, home, and/or community setting Identify youth and family strengths and utilize these strengths to assist with implementation and achievement of identified goals Maintain regular communication with CSMH therapists regarding client progress and ensure good coordination of care for families and clients served Engage families, build alignment, and develop culturally responsive relationships with clients Supports clients in bridging to and/or building on current resources to access ongoing community-based program supports Assist with facilitating family support groups as needed Participate in consultation and supervision sessions as required Attend meetings with community service providers, advocate for client needs, and provide feedback related to client progress as needed Document interactions with clients and families in the agency electronic records system and complete all documentation as required by program in a timely manner Develop relationships with community partners and community resources to assist with connecting clients to identified needs Manage caseload and meet established program expectations Collaborate with other agencies and service providers, including case managers, to advocate on behalf of clients Ensure culturally competent services are provided to all families we serve without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, gender or sexual orientation Perform other responsibilities, as assigned, to support department/business needs Requirements Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited college in Social Work or related field Experience and Training 2+ years of experience working with children and families impacted by child abuse/neglect Experience with crisis intervention preferred Case management experience Training and experience with child abuse/neglect preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Must be bilingual in Spanish (speaking, reading and writing) Knowledge of community resources Exhibit strong collaboration skills, but also able to work independently Ability to exhibit empathy when serving youth and families Crisis intervention and family engagement skills Excellent written, verbal and listening communications skills Demonstrated understanding and ability to work with persons of diverse cultural backgrounds Excellent organization, time management and decision-making skills Good problem-solving skills and ability to resolve conflicts Must respect and maintain confidentiality Understanding and maintenance of clear professional boundaries Strong commitment to follow code of ethics and comply with all laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures that govern the practice of mental health Knowledge of the dynamics of sexual abuse, physical abuse and domestic violence High level of initiative and energy Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Access Other Must be willing to work flexible hours Must submit to a thorough criminal history background check Must have access to a vehicle, possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance Position may involve some travel, primarily within the state Bilingual applicants encouraged to apply The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of the work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
