Wage:$44,000-$46,000 annually
Status: Regular, part-time (20 hours/weekly, flexible)

JOB SUMMARY

The Mental Health and Substance Use Clinician provides intake, assessment, treatment and crisis intervention to youth attending The Youth Integrated Services Hub (YISH). In accordance with the Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Directions of CMHA-Vernon & District, the person will promote a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for clients, families, visitors, and staff. Reporting to the Manager of Youth & Family Integrated Services, this position works as part of an interprofessional team to provide clinical services to youth and young adults (12- 24) with mental health and substance use issues.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

· Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work or related human/social service field and registration in the related accredited body for their profession;
· Two years of recent, related experience working with youth and young adults across the mental health and/or substance use continuum, including experience with interventions and evidence-based treatment modalities, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
· Strong grounding in solution-focused therapy and other brief intervention models.
· Knowledge and experience working with neurodivergent youth (autism, ADHD, etc.).
· Current First Aid Certification
· Criminal record check in the vulnerable sector is a must
· Comprehensive knowledge of relevant Acts including the Mental Health Act and the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), as well as pertinent regulations, policies and procedures, and other statutory duties;

SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Ability to oversee practicum students in Master’s education;
· Demonstrated knowledge of the broad range of issues pertaining to adolescent and young adult mental health and substance use issues, psychiatric diagnosis and related evidence-based best practices;
· Demonstrated ability to complete screening and comprehensive assessments for mental health, substance use, suicide and high-risk behaviors using standardized frameworks and tools;
· Demonstrated knowledge of community response procedures, general counselling principles and intervention techniques;
· Enhanced knowledge of the local or community system of care to support youth and families/caregivers in navigating services;
· Solid understanding of human services ethics with regard to confidentiality and appropriate boundaries;
· Knowledge of harm reduction and trauma-informed practice;
· Training in other modalities (e.g.,crisise.g., crisis intervention, motivational enhancement therapy, behavioral therapy, narrative therapy).
· Demonstrated ability to work constructively and cooperatively in a team setting as part of a multi-disciplinary team and with partner services;
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills—written and verbal;
· Demonstrates cultural sensitivity and understanding of the client population’s socio-economic characteristics;
· Ability to recognize client needs and make appropriate referrals;
· Working knowledge of MS 365 applications considered an asset
· Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Record platforms such as Input Health considered an asset

· Provides referrals to appropriate community services, including recovery and residential programs, vocational programs and other agencies as required;
· Maintains clinical records, data requirements and statistics; provides reports to the Program Manager;
· Collaborates with appropriate program staff and physicians in the development and delivery of continued education and training related to mental health and addiction;
· Maintains knowledge of developments in own profession, including mental health and substance use, through reviewing literature, consulting with clinical and community experts, and participating in professional development and continuing education activities to improve care through new practices;
· Demonstrated commitment to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive team environment;
· Attends training sessions that promote equity, diversity, and inclusion;
· Performs other related duties as assigned;
