Description

Ghilgai Steiner School is a small, well established P-6 school located at the foot of Mount Dandenong in the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
We are seeking a VIT-registered teacher to consolidate our establishment of a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing over the coming months. The Mental Health & Wellbeing Leader position is funded through a generous government grant which we are thrilled to have received.

Components of the role include:

  • Implementing school-wide mental health strategies and learning initiatives aligned with social and emotional wellbeing. Depending on your skillset, these initiatives may incorporate gardening, nature connection, woodworking, music or domestic arts in mixed-age and intergenerational groups.
  • Building the capacity of school staff to identify and support students with mental health concerns. This will include preparing written resources and leading a series of staff sessions.
  • Supporting the school to create clear referral pathways and connections with local services – particularly through face-to-face visits to local support organisations.
  • Completion of a series of professional development and training activities, mostly online, in accordance with grant requirements.

The preferred candidate will have an understanding of Steiner education and experience in Steiner primary school settings.
The position will ideally be 5 days per week from mid-August through to mid-December, although a part-time position may be considered. There is a degree of flexibility in the hours, and some hours could be worked from home.
