Company Description
The Warehouse Group (TWG) has become a Kiwi household name, and we proudly recognise the role that we play in communities throughout New Zealand. We are the largest general merchandise retailer in NZ across The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery & Noel Leeming. We are at an exciting point in our journey where our focus is on becoming brand-centric, aiming to deliver an unparalleled experience for our customers. Agility and collaboration are cornerstones of our work culture, empowering us to adapt swiftly and work seamlessly together. By being brand-led and retail-focused, we are intentional about placing the right people in the right roles, allowing us to perform work that truly makes a difference.
We are now seeking an experienced Merchandise Planner to join our team, supporting a portfolio of categories across Appliances, Audio Visual and Commercial Appliances. You’ll work alongside a team of six Buyers covering: Whiteware, Small Appliances, Vacs/Seasonal, Television, Audio/Gaming, and Commercial Whiteware/TV/Appliances. This is a pivotal role where you’ll take ownership of the financial planning cycle, optimise stock performance, and provide the insights that guide sound commercial decisions across multiple product areas.
Job Description
As a Merchandise Planner, you’ll work closely with both the Buyers and Heads of Merchandise to drive planning and forecasting, monitor stock health, and provide regular updates on category performance against financial targets. A core focus of the role is supporting the buying team with accurate data and commercial recommendations, enabling them to make informed decisions that drive sales and profitability.
This is a highly analytical and commercially focused role, suited to someone who thrives on turning numbers into strategy across a diverse and fast-paced category set.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Heads of Buying with detailed reporting and updates against financial targets and business KPIs
  • Partner with six Buyers to build robust financial plans, including seasonal and promotional forecasts
  • Manage and review budgets and reforecasts throughout the financial year
  • Monitor stock health including aged stock and slow sellers, and recommend action plans
  • Provide commercial insight to optimise stock performance and maximise return on investment
  • Interpret performance data to support range planning and trading decisions
  • Assist in managing markdowns and driving full-price sell-through where possible

Qualifications
You’ll bring strong merchandise or financial planning experience, ideally within a complex retail or product-based business. You’re commercially minded with a passion for numbers, and you take pride in your ability to translate data into tangible commercial recommendations. You’re also confident engaging with senior stakeholders and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where your decisions have real impact.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Proven experience in merchandise or financial planning, ideally in retail or large product categories
  • Advanced numerical and analytical skills, with confidence working in budgeting and forecasting cycles
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate insights clearly and concisely
  • A proactive, collaborative working style with excellent attention to detail
  • Experience monitoring stock flow, managing aged or underperforming stock, and ensuring sales and profit targets are achieved

Additional Information
We offer a dynamic and supportive environment where you’ll be empowered to make an impact. You’ll be part of a team that values flexibility, innovation and continuous improvement. In addition to a competitive salary, we provide a great range of benefits including flexible working options, team member discounts, wellness support, leave benefits, and ongoing development opportunities.
Help shape our appliance offering through smart planning and strategic insight. Apply now to play a critical role in our success at TWG
