Below are the preferred skills, duties, and responsibilities you will have performing as our Metallurgist. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Availability to work 1st shift (7am-3pm). Required: High School/GED diploma or another equivalency. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or closely related field. Strongly Preferred: 3–5 years of practical metallurgy or heat-treat experience. Strongly Preferred: NADCAP or aerospace quality system experience. Strongly Preferred: hands-on laboratory and inspection experience. Must be able to sign and abide by Company’s employee manual and confidentiality agreement Knowledge of phase diagrams, failure analysis, and heat treat process predictions. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong professional communication skills and customer-facing confidence. Required to successfully complete a background check, physical job and drug screening Must be able to effectively use and navigate Microsoft office applications and other technological platforms as needed. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Develop and establish heat-treat processes and schedules (carburizing, quenching, tempering, and atmosphere or vacuum processing) based on material type, part size, and performance requirements. Troubleshoot heat-treat and processing abnormalities and recommend corrective actions. Perform failure analysis of metal components and conduct root-cause investigations. Conduct metallography, including sample preparation, mounting, polishing, etching, and microstructure interpretation. Perform hardness and microhardness testing and evaluate mechanical properties. Correlate microstructure and processing history to final material performance and acceptance criteria. Oversee inspections and verify materials and parts to meet customer and engineering specifications. Prepare technical reports, certifications, and acceptance documentation for customers and quality records. Provide technical customer support and serve as a subject matter resource for materials and processes. Support development and qualification of new and existing parts and processes. Ensure compliance with applicable standards and requirements (e.g., ASTM, ASME, ISO, NADCAP, and customer specifications). Serve as a technical resource for customers, suppliers, production, and quality personnel. Maintain accurate laboratory, inspection, and process documentation. Support aerospace, defense, and industrial projects through technical consultation and material evaluation. Participate in continuous improvement activities related to quality, processing efficiency, and material performance. Industry Awareness: Stay in touch with the latest advancements in materials science and engineering, as well as heat treating technologies and trends, to drive continuous improvement and innovation. Quality Control and Assurance: Establish and implement quality control procedures for incoming products and work with customers to ensure the materials meet required specifications. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare detailed technical reports, material specifications, and other documentation related to materials research, testing, and engineering activities related to metallurgy.
