Responsibilities

SRG has a career opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Metallurgist/Materials Engineer at our Cameron Park (Newcastle) office in NSW. This position will be a combination of laboratory-based metallurgical assessments and failure investigations and based at various clients’ sites during plant outages to provide metallurgical support alongside our team of engineers, non-destructive testing technicians, and inspectors. Our client base is Australia-wide and provides the opportunity to travel and be exposed to a variety of plants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with major industrial clients, planning and undertaking comprehensive metallurgical investigations, in-depth materials failure analysis, and general materials consultancy.
  • Providing metallurgical project support to industrial plant outages, including replication and replication assessment, hardness testing, and material identification.
  • Remaining life assessment of high-temperature plant;
  • Preparing comprehensive technical reports of investigations and providing recommendations for the care of the asset, including repairs, materials improvements, reinspection intervals etc..
  • Perform analysis using in-house SEM (training provided);
  • Provide metallurgical support to weld repairs;
  • Developing and maintaining existing client relationships;
  • Maintaining precise technical records in accordance with company procedures and relevant standards.
  • Ensuring that proper safety procedures, as detailed in the Safety Manual, are strictly followed.
