A BIT ABOUT THE TYNE AND WEAR METROLOGY LABORATORY

The UKAS accredited Tyne and Wear Metrology Laboratory provides a calibration service to businesses both across the region and further afield. It also provides calibration services and technical support to the 5 Trading Standards Authorities of Tyne and Wear. With over 40 years of experience, the laboratory is also a training hub for Trading Standards trainees and apprentices. The laboratory’s public weighbridge provides a vital service to local businesses and other road users.
We are looking for someone to join us as a Metrology Technician

Responsibilities

You will commence on rate of £25,992 per annum and your rate of pay will increase annually in line with the career grade rate subject to the achievement of relevant competencies.
You will be working as a Metrology Technician.
We are looking for someone to provide an excellent level of service to the customers who use the Metrology Laboratory for testing and calibration.
Routine tasks include the calibration, adjustment and refurbishment of weights to both UKAS and UK Weights and Measures Standards, as well as supporting Trading Standards Officers from the 5 local authorities of Tyne and Wear in their routine tasks. You will also be required to provide admin support, covering the main office.
We need someone from a calibration background who understands and can comply with the requirements of the UKAS Quality System, will maintain competence in specified testing and calibration procedures and perform calibrations and prepare certificates.
We need someone who can drive a 3.5 tonne van to transport goods and equipment across the region and be prepared to train to drive a fork lift truck, for which training will be given.
You will be a great communicator and be able to research and analyse data and produce reports as necessary
You will also be required to operate the public weighbridge and take payments for its use. You will be required to develop strong customer relations and identify opportunities for further trading of the service and any other responsibilities allocated which are appropriate to the grade of the job.
