JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • We are seeking an experienced Micro Focus COBOL/.NET Developer to support a large insurance client’s critical legacy system modernization efforts. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience working with Micro Focus Visual COBOL, legacy COBOL applications, and .NET (C#) development.
  • This role will involve maintaining, enhancing, and modernizing existing COBOL-based systems, integrating them with .NET applications, and participating in the migration of business logic from mainframe to distributed environments.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 5+ years of experience in COBOL development, preferably on Micro Focus Visual COBOL / Enterprise Server.
  • Strong knowledge of .NET Framework / C# development.
  • Experience with API development and system integration between legacy and modern applications.
  • Knowledge of insurance domain systems is a plus (claims, policy administration, underwriting).
  • Familiarity with Relational Databases (SQL Server / DB2 / VSAM).
  • Strong communication skills to work effectively with both technical teams and business stakeholders.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience in mainframe to distributed system migration projects.
  • Knowledge of Azure or Cloud platforms is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze, maintain, and enhance existing COBOL applications running on Micro Focus platforms.
  • Refactor and migrate COBOL logic into .NET (C#)-based services or applications.
  • Collaborate with architects and business analysts to understand system requirements and integration points.
  • Develop RESTful APIs or service layers to expose COBOL functionality to modern platforms.
  • Perform code reviews, unit testing, and support user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Provide production support and troubleshooting for COBOL/.NET integrated systems.
  • Participate in client meetings to gather requirements and report progress.
