The role involves sharing general microbiology duties with an experienced team of three dual trained and one single trained Microbiologist, and one Registrar. The position also involves providing a high quality Infectious Diseases consultation service to local private hospitals where DHM is the pathology provider. DHM exemplifies Sonic Healthcare’s unique culture of Medical Leadership, where pathologist autonomy, supported by world-class facilities, expert scientists and well-resourced IT, enables truly patient-centred care.
DHM is a leader in microbial genomics, including playing a pivotal role in the launch over a year ago of a world-first faecal shotgun metagenomics assay (MetaPanel) and has two NPAAC-certified microbial genomics scope-of-practice Microbiologists. Experience or interest in this area, in addition to infection control and antimicrobial stewardship, will be viewed favourably.
DHM also offers rich opportunities for applied microbiology research, for which the large volumes of high complexity samples seen allow many opportunities, as well as medical student teaching for the University of Notre Dame, Sydney.
This position is most suitable for those mid-career who are interested in a change of workplace and are looking for a satisfying mix of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases work in a cutting edge laboratory with ample scope for research and/or teaching opportunities. However, applicants of all backgrounds and levels of experience are welcome.
Applicants must be registered in Australia as a medical practitioner, have an FRCPA and FRACP and be registered with AHPRA.
