Job Title: Microbiology and PCR Manager
Salary: £37,000 - £41,000 + bonus
Location: Warwick, UK
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
Hours: Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biomedical science or equivalent relevant degree
  • At least 2 years of line management experience, including recruitment and performance oversight.
  • Minimum 5 years’ recent experience in a high-throughput, automated clinical diagnostic laboratory, covering analyser setup, quality control review, specimen preparation, result interpretation and release, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Experience working with veterinary samples is desirable .
  • Familiarity with quality management systems such as ISO 15189 or ISO 17025 is desirable.

Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Antech are looking for an experienced Microbiology and PCR Manager to join our well established team within our state of the art hub lab located in the Warwick. In this role, you will supervise the department on a day-to-day basis and perform laboratory analysis to support veterinary clients. Key department specialities include microbiology, parasitology and mycology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES INCLUDE:

  • Lead and manage departmental staff, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, providing coaching, and supporting development. Oversee onboarding, training, and employment related actions, while resolving any escalated issues.
  • Coordinate day to day departmental operations, including planning workloads, maintaining schedules, participating in routine benchwork, and ensuring adequate staffing and resources to meet service expectations.
  • Maintain diagnostic equipment and technical resources, working with suppliers and internal teams to address technical and supply issues. Oversee inventory to ensure continuous availability of essential materials.
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance and Health & Safety standards. Maintain and review SOPs, ensuring they are current and followed by all team members.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across functions to support seamless laboratory operations. Communicate policy or procedural updates clearly within the team.
  • Act as a technical liaison for Customer Service, providing expert input on sample or test-related queries and consulting with clients when needed.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and presentations; support budget planning and general administrative duties. Maintain a clean, organised work environment.
  • Welcome and supervise visitors, including prospective clients, interns, and new hires. Stay up to date with industry developments and represent the organisation in relevant external forums.
  • Promote a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical conduct, encouraging open communication and compliance with company values and standards.
