Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated NHS experienced Consultant in Microbiology to join our existing team. Based in the South East region.
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will work alongside three other Consultant Microbiologists to deliver high-quality Clinical Microbiology and Infection Control Services.
The South East region offers a vibrant seaside lifestyle, stunning countryside, and excellent rail links to London and the continent.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective clinical Microbiology, infection prevention and control, and laboratory service.
  • Share daily clinical and infection control duties across sites, including:
  • Laboratory bench rounds and clinical ward rounds.
  • Reviewing microbiology results and authorizing reports.
  • Responding to clinical and infection prevention queries from clinicians, nurses, and GPs.
  • Collaborating with Infection Prevention and Control Nurses on ongoing infection control matters.
  • Potential to step up to a Lead role, depending on experience.
  • Support and contribute to staff training, research, and service development.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:QUALIFICATIONS & REGISTRATION:

Essential:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
  • Full GMC registration and ideally on the specialist register however this is by no means essential
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
  • UK applicants about to complete training and seeking their first Consultant position will also be considered

Desirable:

  • Diploma in Hospital Infection Prevention and Control.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

Essential:

  • NHS experience as a Consultant is essential.
  • Broad experience in Clinical Microbiology and Infection Prevention & Control.

Desirable:

  • Management experience within a clinical setting.

PERSONAL SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

Essential:

  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • IT literacy and ability to collaborate with other specialities to enhance local services.
  • Professionalism and a good attendance record.

Desirable:

  • Presentation skills and experience leading initiatives or projects.

TEACHING & EDUCATION:

Essential:

  • Enthusiasm for teaching medical students, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals.

Desirable:

  • Educational qualification in teaching.
