JOB SUMMARY

As part of the Microbiology Services Laboratory (MSL) Team, this post holder will deliver a technical specialist service delivering practical and technical solutions on the operation and management of a range of equipment, software applications and procedures within MSL.
MSL Technical Specialist will have developed knowledge and practice of microbiological screening and, confirmation testing of donations, from blood and non-blood donors and, experience in the equipment management lifecycle.
The post holder will provide laboratory cover for MSL, a specialist laboratory within NHSBT. There is an expectation for the post holder to be based in MSL with some flexibility for scheduled remote working. The post holder will have a designated base but will be required to have the flexibility of agile working.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Advanced understanding of specialist area e.g. Equipment management/ Software management in a regulated / accredited environment
  • Experience of working with quality standards in an environment governed by a range of policies and legislation. With good knowledge of data protection.
  • Experience of working with information technology using Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint)

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

  • Experienced in the use and management of equipment in an operational environment including validations, advice and operational support.
  • Degree PLUS experience in equipment management OR extensive proven practical experience in equipment and software management within a relevant laboratory setting
  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD)

Responsibilities
  • Subject matter expert for best practice selection, implementation, maintenance, management and troubleshooting of new and existing equipment.
  • Subject matter expert for validation, implementation and ongoing support of new and existing software applications used in MSL e.g. databases and statistical process monitoring (SPM) software
  • Develop and regularly deliver training for best practice operational techniques and equipment management procedures.
  • Develop and support teams to perform the validation and implementation of new equipment, including software applications, and consumables.
  • Collect and interpret complex data, perform equipment investigations, provide technical reports, identify trends and manage interventions.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and internal subject matter experts.
