Job Description We are seeking a Microbiology Shift Lead to oversee second-shift activities in a GMP-regulated laboratory. This role is ideal for candidates with strong microbiology experience and hands-on knowledge of environmental monitoring (EM) and microbial identification. The position combines technical responsibilities with team coordination, ensuring smooth operations and compliance with quality standards. Key Responsibilities Microbiology & Environmental Monitoring Perform and oversee EM activities, including sampling of cleanrooms, water systems, and compressed gases. Conduct microbial identification and acceptance testing of commercially prepared microbiological culture media. Maintain microbiological productivity databases; generate metrics and trend reports. Support investigations into microbiological deviations and assist with documentation. Ensure calibration and maintenance of microbiology lab equipment. Review microbiological data for accuracy and compliance. Utilize LIMS for sample tracking and reporting. Team Coordination & Workflow Management Serve as the point of contact for second-shift microbiology operations. Provide guidance and support to analysts, ensuring adherence to protocols and timelines. Assist with onboarding and training on microbiological techniques and EM procedures. Coordinate scheduling and task allocation for shift activities. Apply Lean principles to improve efficiency and reduce bottlenecks. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: BS in Microbiology, Life Sciences, or related field with 4+ years of relevant experience OR MS with 2+ years of relevant experience Hands-on experience in environmental monitoring and microbial identification in a GMP-regulated setting. Prior experience providing guidance or informal leadership in a lab environment. Strong understanding of microbiological testing and compliance standards. Familiarity with LIMS and electronic data systems preferred. Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship. Preferred Skills: Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma or process improvement methodologies. Advanced microbial identification techniques (e.g., MALDI-TOF, genetic sequencing). Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Additional Information Full-time, onsite position based on second-shift schedule (Mon–Fri, 2:30pm–11:00pm), with occasional weekends and overtime as needed.
