Description Job Summary The Microtransit Driver – Lead operates City microtransit vehicles to provide safe, reliable, and customer-focused on-demand transportation services primarily on military installations and to designated locations immediately off post. This position utilizes a ride-on-demand application to respond to real-time passenger trip requests while complying with security requirements, traffic regulations, and service standards unique to controlled-access environments. In addition to performing the full range of Microtransit Driver duties, the Lead Driver provides direct supervision of Microtransit Drivers, including performance oversight, scheduling coordination, coaching, and participation in corrective and progressive discipline processes. The position also mentors and trains drivers, delivers day-to-day operational guidance, and supports dependable service delivery, rider accessibility, and the successful operation of the City’s Microtransit program. Duties and Responsibilities Safely operates City microtransit buses or vans primarily on military installations and to designated locations immediately adjacent to the installation, in accordance with security requirements, routing instructions, schedules, and City policies. Provides on-demand transportation services using a ride request and reservation application, similar to commercial ride-share platforms, and responds to real-time trip requests in accordance with established service parameters. Complies with all military installation access requirements, traffic regulations, security protocols, and coordination procedures while operating on-post or in controlled access environments. Performs required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; identifies safety concerns; and reports maintenance or repair needs verbally and in writing in accordance with established procedures. Maintains the cleanliness, safety, and professional appearance of assigned vehicles, including interior and exterior areas. Operates onboard vehicle equipment and technology, including wheelchair lifts, ramps, securement systems, tablets, mobile devices, and push-to-talk applications as applicable. Assists passengers with boarding, exiting, and securement as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including providing physical assistance and safely evacuating passengers during emergency situations when necessary. Accurately maintains required passenger, trip, and vehicle records using both electronic systems and manual documentation as required. Provides courteous, professional assistance to passengers, including general information regarding microtransit services, ride-request procedures, and applicable transit policies. Communicates effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and program staff regarding service conditions, route issues, traffic delays, passenger concerns, or safety matters. Adheres to all safety practices and procedures and operates vehicles in a safe, efficient, and customer-focused manner at all times. Maintains a professional personal appearance and an orderly, professional vehicle and work area. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with passengers, coworkers, dispatch staff, military installation personnel, supervisors, and other City staff. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Lead Responsibilities Serves as a lead worker by mentoring, training, and providing day-to-day guidance to new and less experienced Microtransit Drivers, including onboarding, route and service-area familiarization, use of ride-on-demand technology, customer service standards, and safe vehicle operation practices. Participates in hiring boards and assists in training of new and current employees as assigned. Manages, counsels, and monitors performance and attendance of shift drivers and supports the Lead Dispatcher in assessing the performance of shift dispatchers. Provides operational direction to drivers during assigned shifts in the absence of supervisory or management staff, within established policies and procedures. Assists the IGSA Transportation Manager in overseeing driver and dispatcher operational compliance requirements, including monitoring timesheets, vehicle and dispatch equipment maintenance reporting, and adherence to contract service standards. With oversight from the IGSA Transportation Manager, assists in the professional investigation of complaints against drivers, accidents involving drivers, and complaints involving dispatchers, and supports initiatives to determine root causes and implement corrective actions to reduce recurrence. With support from the IGSA Transportation Manager, oversees daily fleet pullout activities, pre-trip inspection compliance, and vehicle availability to ensure safe and efficient operations. In coordination with the Lead Dispatcher, monitors service performance and supports real-time operational adjustments to maximize efficiency and maintain on-time response to ride requests. Develops and coordinates vacation scheduling for drivers and dispatchers, ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet operational needs. With guidance from the IGSA Transportation Manager and in coordination with Human Resources, supports the administration of appropriate and consistent corrective and progressive disciplinary actions. Works collaboratively with the Lead Dispatcher to monitor and ensure compliance with all contract service requirements and provides detailed oversight of daily transportation activities, including review of driver and dispatcher timesheets, vehicle and equipment maintenance reporting, and related operational documentation. Acts as a liaison with supporting vendors in coordination with the IGSA Transportation Manager and participates in “Train the Trainer” initiatives as assigned. Will be cross trained in dispatching duties and may perform dispatch responsibilities as needed to maintain service continuity in the absence of a designated shift dispatcher. Supervisor Duties Provides direct supervision of Microtransit Drivers, including performance management, attendance monitoring, coaching, and scheduling oversight. Participates in hiring, onboarding, and training activities and contributes to performance evaluations and operational investigations involving subordinate staff. In coordination with the IGSA Transportation Manager and Human Resources, supports the administration of corrective and progressive disciplinary actions and ensures consistent application of policies, service standards, and contractual requirements while fostering a professional, accountable, and safety-focused work environment. Work Environment The Microtransit Driver – Lead works primarily in and around City-operated microtransit vehicles and performs the majority of duties while seated for extended periods of time operating a bus or van. The position also requires periodic standing, walking, bending, and physical movement to assist passengers with boarding, securement, and exiting vehicles. Work is performed primarily on military installations and in designated areas immediately adjacent to the installation, requiring adherence to access controls, security procedures, and traffic regulations specific to controlled environments. The position may be exposed to road hazards associated with vehicular traffic, variable road conditions, and adverse weather common to the Fountain, Colorado area, including snow, ice, hail, wind, and temperature extremes. The work environment may include exposure to vehicle fumes, airborne particles, and moderate noise levels typical of transit operations. Work schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts based on service needs. Requirements Qualifications Three (3) years experience driving passenger vehicles, transit vehicles, shuttle services, or similar customer-facing transportation services (e.g., Uber or Lyft) are required. Two (2) years of leadership, management, or supervisor experience is required. Demonstrated technical proficiency and adaptability with operational software and hardware systems; ability to quickly learn, effectively utilize, and troubleshoot evolving technologies essential to microtransit operations. An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Transportation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, Logistics, or a closely related field is preferred and may substitute for a portion of the required leadership or supervisory experience. Valid Colorado driver’s license is required. A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is preferred but not required. Must obtain FEMA ICS 100 and ICS 700 certifications within twelve (12) months of hire. Ability to be granted access to military installations through approved methods is required. Military affiliation that provides automatic access to military installations (such as active duty service member, dependent, veteran, or retiree status) is highly preferred. Must be eligible to operate City vehicles and meet insurability requirements in accordance with City policy, including maintaining an acceptable driving record. Driver’s license must not have been suspended or revoked within the previous three (3) years. Must be willing and able to operate microtransit vehicles, including passenger and ADA compliant vans, in both on-demand and scheduled service environments. Ability to use onboard technology, tablets, and ride-on-demand applications to receive trip requests, manage reservations, and document service activity. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing, with passengers, coworkers, dispatch staff, supervisors, military installation personnel, and the general public.
