Motorola Solutions is a world leader in the field of mobile communications systems, with an impressive heritage of technological innovations and a global base of installed systems. The Motorola Solutions Engineering Practice team is looking for a Microwave (MW) Practice Office lead. This role is within the Subject Matter Experts team, specializing in RF Coverage, RF Microwave, and RF Devices. The MW Practice Office lead will support Motorola Field Engineering Teams across North America.
Our team provides expertise supporting the design and implementation of mission-critical digital mobile communication systems for Government & Public Safety Communications customers, as well as some large commercial customers. Many of our systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard. With the growth of data services many of our customer’s mobile wireless networks are being enhanced with LTE infrastructure for applications such as live mobile video transmission, supplementing our traditional core voice and narrowband data networks.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Microwave Practice Office Lead would interface with Sales, Project Management, System Engineering and System Technologist personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission critical communication systems.
The MW Practice Office lead will provide guidance on all microwave design and implementation aspects of the project from proposal to award until system acceptance.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.
  • Self motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment
  • Experience/knowledge in radio communication systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless system design.
  • Experience in setting up , executing and optimizing microwave and interference mitigation designs
  • Ability to work with our 3rd party vendors for additional support/guidance
  • Experience / knowledge in troubleshooting MW (Microwave) Sites / noise mitigation challenges on deployed systems and providing guidance to local field teams.
  • Collaborate with the internal procurement team to oversee technical specifications and public safety applications of available microwave devices.
  • Drive Microwave Subject Matter Expert initiatives (MW SME)
  • Work with our 3rd party MW vendors to help ensure they are following MSI standard design practices.
    Some travel is required for this role. Travel may be required for training or to support deployment resolution of MW issues.
    Target Base Salary Range: $112,300 - $224,600 USD
    Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BSEE/BSCE preferred) and 10+ years of Microwave System Engineering in the Wireless Communications field.
  • Expert knowledge in Microwave fundamentals and propagation studies in the 4GHz to 23GHz bands
  • Working knowledge of Pathloss 5/6 on creating and analyzing links within the pathloss tool.
