TITLE: Middle School Classroom Teacher (7th Grade ELA)
REPORTS TO: Building Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Pennsylvania teaching certificate (Required)
  • Candidates with English 7-12, Middle Level English 6-9 or Grades 4-8 ELA.
  • 3.0 or higher QPA
  • Proof of ongoing professional or educational experience
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literacy

Responsibilities
  • Teaches the assigned academic subject(s) to students in a classroom, using the approved course of study adopted by the South Fayette Township School District.
  • Instructs students in standards and subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials which provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Fosters an inquiry-based approach to learning through project-based, real-world tasks.
  • Promotes the integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) concepts through experiential learning opportunities.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Collaborates with peers to write curricular units and participates in associated training and professional development.
  • Utilizes multiple instructional technologies to engage students and enhance instructional practices for students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional, safe learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student’s progress and interpret the school program.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
  • Maintains professional competence through staff development provided by the district and incorporates the techniques into everyday instruction.
  • Maintains professional competences through self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
  • Administers group standardized tests in accordance with district and state testing procedures.
  • Utilizes data to make instructional decisions.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
  • Participates in school-wide programs including, but not limited to PBIS, World of Work, and Advisory.
