Description Saint Joseph Catholic School is seeking a qualified Middle School History and Religion Teacher who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school within the Archdiocese of Denver. The teacher is hired by and directly accountable to the principal. The teacher is expected to abide by the policies and procedures of the local school, the Archdiocese of Denver, and the Office of Catholic Schools. The teacher cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic Education. The ideal candidate is committed to nurturing the spiritual, intellectual, and moral development of middle school students through engaging instruction, faith formation, and collaboration within a Catholic school community. Requirements The duties of the Middle School Teacher will include but are not limited to: Catholic Identity & Faith Formation Actively models and supports the mission, philosophy, and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Integrates Catholic values, Scripture, Church tradition, and social teaching into Religion instruction and across the curriculum. Supports the spiritual growth of students through participation in prayer, liturgies, sacramental preparation, and faith-based activities. Instructional Excellence Plans and delivers engaging, age-appropriate History and Religion lessons aligned with Archdiocesan and school curriculum standards. Employs a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs and promote critical thinking. Uses assessments effectively to monitor student progress, provide feedback, and adjust instruction. Maintains high academic expectations while fostering curiosity and respect for history, culture, and faith development. Classroom Environment & Student Engagement Creates a positive, respectful, and well-managed classroom rooted in Gospel values. Builds strong relationships with students that support social-emotional growth, responsibility, and self-discipline. Encourages thoughtful discussion, inquiry, and reflection on historical events and religious teachings. Professional Collaboration & Communication Collaborates effectively with middle school colleagues, administration, and support staff. Communicates regularly and professionally with parents regarding student progress and classroom expectations. Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events. Professional Responsibility Demonstrates professionalism, organization, and reliability in all responsibilities. Adheres to school policies, Archdiocesan guidelines, and ethical standards. Engages in continuous professional and spiritual growth. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in education, History, Theology, or a related field. Valid teaching certification or eligibility preferred. Middle school teaching experience preferred. Compliance with Safe Environment requirements. Preferences and Qualifications: Be a fully initiated Catholic in the communion of the Catholic Church and intentionally living out the five precepts of the Church (CCC 2041-2043). Refrain from promotion or approval of, or the living out of, any conduct or lifestyle that would reflect discredit or disgrace on, or cause scandal in relationship to, the Archdiocese of Denver, or considered to be in contradiction with Catholic doctrine or morals. Effective supervisory skills. Effective listening and verbal communication skills. Must have the necessary background and training in elementary education methods and subject areas. Must have understanding of child development skills necessary to relate to the students being taught. Must have appropriate control and discipline techniques to successfully manage a classroom. Must collaborate cooperatively with school staff and administration. Sound judgment and decision-making skills. Knowledge of and willingness to implement safety and emergency procedures. Positive references and recommendations. Successfully pass a criminal background check. Physical Requirements: Requires lifting up to forty pounds and carrying up to forty pounds. Ability to execute appropriate safety and emergency procedures, including leading evacuations and providing basic first aid.
