QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold a valid Ohio Teaching License and/or the
appropriate Endorsement and Authorization for the assignment.
Bachelor’s Degree in education from an accredited college or University
Prefer at least 3 years teaching experience in the area of literacy
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may
find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide direct instruction to students identified as needing intensive reading services in the manner which best fits individual student needs.
• Use identified needs to guide the learning process toward student achievement of state reading/language arts content standards. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects using formal and informal assessment data obtained from students.
• Create or select short- and long-range plans based on state standards, student profiles, and instructional priorities.
• Use a variety of instructional techniques and literacy materials consistent with reading/language arts content standards and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
• Design individual literacy lessons for children having the greatest difficulty learning to read and write. Plan and prepare a variety of learning activities considering individual student’s culture, learning styles, special needs, and socioeconomic background.
• Provide written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
• Communicate progress with a student’s classroom teacher on a weekly basis and collaborate with them to design and support progress towards state standards
• Analyze and identify reading problems accurately.
• Interpret data including but not limited to standardized and other test results for diagnosis, instructional planning and program evaluation
• Assist teachers in selecting, administering, and evaluating results of screening, diagnostic, and progress assessments
• Assist teachers in the provision of appropriate intensive intervention instruction for struggling students, including those who are limited English proficient.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of subject matter.
• Communicate high learning expectations for all students.
• Apply principles of learning and effective teaching in instructional delivery.
• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy,administrative guidelines, or specific program requirements. Ensures detailed documentation on student progress is available.
• Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
• Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Interpret student needs and progressing reading remediation to the classroom teacher and the parents.
• Communicate, in understandable terms, individual student progress to the student, parents/guardians, and professional colleagues who need access to the information.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with other professionals, students, parents and community.
• Collaborate, as needed, with appropriate district personnel regarding students who may need specialized interventions.
• Ensure the safety of students.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain knowledge of academic area, teaching methodology and strategies to engage students.
• Content knowledge of the science of reading and the 5 big ideas or reading.
• Demonstrate willingness to learn, acquire , and apply new skills and knowledge.
• Attend and completes all literacy professional development
• Attend and participate in Orton Gillingham Training as necessary
• Attend up to 5 days of professional development over the summer (this will vary based on district/teacher need)
• Attend after school sessions throughout the school year
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence through professional development activities.
• Continuously seek to develop a deeper understanding of the science of reading, five big ideas of reading and high quality literacy instruction
• Coordinate with principal/district literacy trainer in planning and implementing professional development activities to address school improvement as needed.
• Attend meetings and serves on staff committees as required.12 .Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents.
• Refer suspected cases of child abuse immediately to the appropriate child protective services/law enforcement agency as mandated by state law and Board of Education policy.
• Attend any required State Literacy Grant meetings and complete reports
