The International Community School of Addis Ababa invites applications for the position of Middle School Principal beginning August 2026. This is a senior leadership role within a well-established IB World School. The Principal serves as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and plays a central role in shaping whole-school strategy, ensuring alignment across divisions, and strengthening a coherent PYP to MYP to DP/CP and other pathways continuum. We are seeking an experienced and committed Middle School Principal to join the senior leadership team and lead teaching and learning in the Middle School. The successful candidate will bring a strong instructional leadership background, a clear vision for middle years education, and the ability to inspire faculty and staff to deliver high-quality student outcomes. This role requires a collaborative leader who can build strong relationships, support professional growth, and strengthen a positive, inclusive school culture. The Role The Middle School Principal leads academic excellence, student well-being, and staff performance within the Middle School (Grades 6-8) of the IB Middle Years Programme in close collaboration with the High School. The successful candidate will be a strong instructional leader who ensures rigorous, skills-based learning in every classroom and fosters a culture of professional accountability. Contract and Compensation The initial contract will be for three years (August 2026–July 2029). Our administrator's salary and benefits package is competitive internationally and will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. Addis Ababa enjoys a relatively low cost of living, and there are no local taxes on salary or benefits. In addition to a base salary that allows considerable discretionary income, we provide furnished housing, an overseas-hire allowance (15%), matching retirement (10%), a local utility allowance, generous professional learning opportunities, a laptop reimbursement benefit, a school vehicle with a fuel allowance for personal and professional use, international family health insurance with vision and dental benefits, disability and life insurance, annual home leave, shipping/settling-in allowance, and free tuition for school-age dependents. There are limited employment opportunities within Addis Ababa for a non-teaching spouse. The administrator’s contract is for 207 days and shall be entitled to holidays established annually as holidays for the school, less than 15 days where s/he is expected to be on duty.
