Job Title: Middle School Social Studies Teacher / 7th Grade Homeroom Teacher
Department: Academics – Learning & Teaching
Reports To: Academic Director and Dean of the Academy
Employment Status: Full-Time, 10 Months

POSITION OVERVIEW

Atlanta Youth Academy is seeking a dedicated and passionate Middle School Social Studies Teacher who will also serve as the 7th Grade Homeroom Teacher. This full-time position is responsible for delivering high-quality, engaging instruction in a Christ-centered, college-preparatory learning environment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Middle School Education or a related field
  • A master’s degree is preferred but not required
  • Valid teaching certification is required
Responsibilities

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 6th Grade World Geography (Part 1)
  • 7th Grade World Geography (Part 2)
  • 8th Grade Georgia Studies
  • 7th Grade Bible
    Note: Teaching assignments are subject to change and may include additional co-curricular or extracurricular responsibilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver content-rich and age-appropriate instruction aligned with AYA’s instructional framework
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that foster critical thinking, inquiry, and a global perspective
  • Administer balanced assessments to inform instruction and meet diverse student needs
  • Establish a safe, supportive, and structured classroom environment conducive to active learning
  • Incorporate appropriate educational technology into classroom instruction
  • Maintain high standards of student behavior and enforce school policies consistently
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents/guardians, administrators, and support staff
  • Communicate regularly with parents through conferences, phone calls, email, and written reports
  • Identify students requiring academic support and work with Learning Specialists on interventions and referrals
  • Offer academic support before or after school as needed
  • Sponsor or participate in extracurricular activities such as clubs, student organizations, or academic competitions
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Demonstrate professionalism and uphold ethical standards in all school-related activities
  • Prepare appropriate substitute plans and materials when absent
  • Support school culture and morale through positive interactions with students and colleagues
