Job Overview The Teacher Dance (Middle School) will plan and implement an instructional dance program and provide related educational services for students in assigned grade levels in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Fine Arts supervising dance. The incumbent will manage student behaviors, assess and evaluate student achievement, and modify/control instructional activities as required. Travel between middle school campuses is required. Irregular or prolonged hours may be required.. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Teaching and Learning Coordinate the planning and implementation of appropriate instructional/learning strategies and activities, including determination of appropriate type and level of materials in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Fine Arts supervising dance Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement Assess student abilities and achievement as related to desired educational goals, objectives, and outcomes and maintain appropriate assessment and evaluation documentation for institutional and individual reporting purposes Assist and participate in management of student behavior in all parts of the school, center, school grounds, or work site both during and outside of school hours; monitor and enforce compliance with the Fort Bend ISD Student/Parent Handbook, Student Code of Conduct and Extracurricular Handbook Ensure continuous communication with parents, both written and oral, to keep them informed of student(s) progress Communicate with students on instructional expectations and keep them informed of their progress Ensure classroom and/or instructional environment is beneficial, healthful, safe, and conducive to learning and that materials are accessible to students and in good condition Travel between middle school campuses required Program Management Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for all extracurricular activities if applicable Understand and uphold all rules, regulations, and dates that pertain to the co-curricular and extra-curricular programs including TDEA and FBISD policies if applicable Comply with all established policies and procedures related to the dance program submitting all required forms, fees, and electronic documents by the specified deadlines Maintain a current inventory of all fine arts equipment and instructional materials in the specified materials management system and coordinate the service and repair of school-owned equipment Professional Responsibilities Ensure standards of professional conduct are maintained (Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators) Understand and uphold all rules, regulations, and dates that pertain to the dance program (UIL, TDEA and FBISD policies all apply) Provide proper student supervision during and after all program activities until all students have left the area Participate in in-service, professional learning activities, and staff meetings as required or assigned, including meetings with the Assistant Director of Fine Arts supervising dance Supervisory Responsibilities None Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the above essential duties satisfactorily. Bachelor's degree in Dance, Dance Education, or related field Master's degree preferred Valid Texas Physical Education Teaching Certificate or has received statement of eligibility Dance Certification preferred Minimum of 2 years of Full-Time Teaching experience preferred Effective oral and written communications skills, including the ability to use social media effectively Demonstrated proficiency of proper dance technique in a variety of forms Ability to interact appropriately with the public, District staff, and parents Ability to collaborate with colleagues on the campus and in the instructional feeder pattern Ability to market the instructional program Physical Requirements/Working Conditions The work environment characteristics and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
