I. JOB SUMMARY JOB DESCRIPTION The Middle School Youth Minister at our parish is to walk with young people (grades 5th-8th grade) and their families to become active Disciples of Christ. This is accomplished through a process of evangelization that includes pastoral, liturgical, and catechetical formation. The Middle School Youth Minister provides primary leadership for the design and implementation of Middle School Youth Ministry at our parish. All catechetical instruction must be in keeping with the magisterial teachings of the Catholic Church.  The Middle School Youth Minister will work closely with the Director of Youth Ministry, Confirmation Catechists and Family Catechesis 5th-7th Grade Coordinator but have autonomy over their programming.  II. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Sacrament of Confirmation Responsibilities Assist with executing Confirmation youth group sessions and rallies: Sundays: 10:15AM, 2:15PM, 4:00PM, 6:15PM (1 Hour and 30 Minutes) Sept. 13th, Sept. 20th, Oct. 4th, Oct. 25th, Nov. 1st, Nov. 8th, Nov. 15th, Dec. 13th, Jan. 24th, Jan. 31st, Feb. 7th, Feb. 28th, March 7th, March 14th, April 4th 7th/8th Grade Rallies: Aug. 30th, and April 11th (6-8PM) Attend the Confirmation retreat at Damascus (December 4th-6th, 2026). Prepares a budget for middle school youth ministry and Confirmation youth group. Running Middle School Youth Group Run ongoing middle school youth group gatherings, with assistance from core team. Assists in set up and clean up for all middle school youth group gatherings. Curriculum Creates, organizes and maintains the youth ministry curriculum for grades 5th-8th grade. Creates in collaboration, with the Confirmation Catechists, the curriculum for Confirmation youth group. Volunteers Form a core team of adult volunteers who will specifically minister to our middle school youth. Recruits, trains and supervises additional volunteer program leaders for Confirmation youth group, especially parent volunteers for rallies. Communication Work with the Director of Youth Ministry, Confirmation Catechists, and Family Catechesis Team to communicate important event information to parents of youth. Maintain a working relationship and good communication with other staff members, volunteers and parents through meetings, letters, phone calls and e-mails. Administrative Create a calendar of events in collaboration with the Director of Youth Ministry and Family Catechesis Team. Purchase supplies for Middle School Youth Group, Confirmation Youth Group and Confirmation Youth Rallies. Be a staff contact for Blaze and Trail Life ministries.  Assist with promoting these ministries to middle schools youth.  Participate as an on needed basis. Submit set up plan to maintenance ahead of time for middle school youth group events and Confirmation youth group sessions and rallies. Attend staff meetings and retreats. Collaborates with clergy and fellow staff members in accordance with the overarching vision and mission of St. Peter St. Joan of Arc Parish. High School Youth Ministry Collaborate with the High School youth minister to support and promote youth ministry. Ensure a smooth transition from middle school youth group to high school youth group. III. OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Understands Catholic social teaching and applies it to parish policies and practices. 2. Maintains a neat and safe work area. 5. Appropriate office attire is required. 6. Maintains all information as highly confidential. 7. Supportive of the Pastor's vision. 8. Performs other duties as assigned. IV. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Required: Compliance with BCI&l background checks and completion of Protecting God's Children program. Education: BS or BA in Religious Education/Catholic Theology or equivalent is preferred. Knowledge and understanding of the Catholic Church and its mission is required. Experience: Familiarity with principles and dimensions of catechesis and youth ministry; proven administrative skills, including interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, management and supervision, budget preparation, and collaborative effort. Job Related Skills: Project planning and tracking skills, budget preparation and tracking skills along with the ability to multitask are mandatory for this position. Solid understanding of youth ministry and catechesis principles. Strong writing skills, excellent speaking, and teaching skills, along with the ability to speak to a diverse audience from priests to parents and to youth is required. Computer, audio/visual and video production skills are all necessary in creating youth ministry programs on a large scale. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent human relations skills when dealing with co-workers, other parish or Diocesan employees, families, and the general public. The ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment. Language Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills are required; ability to read and comprehend instructions, write correspondence and memos. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to conduct detailed, involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Working Environment: Regular evening and weekend work hours are required. V. PHYSICAL STRENGTH DEMANDS The Physical Demands Strength Rating reflects the estimated overall strength requirement of the job. It represents the strength requirements, which are considered to be important for average, successful work performance. Medium Work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.
