The Role Your role Bring your specialist knowledge and experience to a company managing 50% of the world’s MIPS and play a critical role in our modernization mission. You’ll be in good company among our global community of experts leading the future of mainframe modernization. Experts who share knowledge openly and collaborate freely. In this role, you’ll design, build and maintain the high-volume business logic that runs on the mainframe. At the same time you’ll play a key role in refactoring legacy code to enable modern cloud and mobile applications to seamlessly interact with the mainframe’s core data. What you will do Performs manual refactoring for containerization Creates Docker images and Helm charts Tunes container runtime and application configurations Deploys and validates workloads on GKE environments Discovery & Assessment Assess current WAS application landscapes, architecture, and dependencies. Identify application components, middleware configurations, and integration touchpoints. Evaluate application readiness for containerisation and GKE migration. Collaborate with architects to define migration strategy (rehost, replatform, or refactor). Migration Planning & Design Develop detailed migration plans, including timelines, dependencies, and risk mitigation strategies. Design target-state architecture on GKE (clusters, namespaces, networking, ingress, etc.). Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to prepare the GCP environment. Identify and implement appropriate migration tooling (CI/CD, Helm, automation frameworks) Environment Setup & Preparation Configure and validate GKE clusters, networking, and security settings. Define containerisation strategy including Docker images and repository management. Develop Kubernetes deployment manifests and Helm charts. Set up monitoring, logging, and observability frameworks. Migration Execution Containerise and migrate WAS applications to GKE. Execute migration runbooks and deployment processes. Migrate associated data and dependent services where required. Perform environment configuration tuning to ensure compatibility in Kubernetes. Collaboration & Governance Work closely with Cloud Architects, DevOps, Security, and Application teams. Align with Cloud Centre of Excellence (CoE) standards and best practices. Ensure compliance with organisational and client security policies. Provide regular status updates, risk reporting, and documentation. Who You Are Required skills and experience Strong hands-on experience in Kubernetes and GKE Expertise in WebSphere Application Server (WAS) Experience in containerisation (Docker) Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab, Argo CD, etc.) Proficiency in Helm, Kubernetes manifests, kubectl Experience with GCP services (compute, networking, IAM, load balancing) Preferred skills and experience Experience with cloud migration frameworks and methodologies Knowledge of microservices architecture and API integrations Familiarity with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Stackdriver) Being You The “Kyn” in Kyndryl means kinship, which represents the strong bonds we have with each other, our customers and our communities.
