This position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, maintaining safe operations, and supporting continuous production throughout the yard and processing facility. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and hydraulic expertise, experience in industrial or recycling environments, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, safety-sensitive operation. Key Responsibilities Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair material handlers, wheel loaders, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, and similar off-road equipment Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, drivetrains, braking systems, and electrical controls Perform preventive maintenance, scheduled services, lubrication, and safety inspections Identify wear, fatigue, or failure risks and recommend corrective actions Follow all OSHA regulations, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and company safety policies Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area Identify unsafe conditions and report hazards immediately Properly use PPE at all times in yard and plant environments Maintain accurate maintenance records, PM logs, and repair documentation Communicate equipment condition, repair status, and maintenance priorities to supervisors Coordinate closely with operations to minimize production downtime Requirements Technical certification or trade school training preferred. 3-5 years’ experience as a heavy equipment, diesel, or industrial mechanic MA 2A1C Hoisting licensing a plus Proven experience working on mobile off-road equipment (material handlers strongly preferred) Experience maintaining stationary industrial equipment such as shredders, conveyors, balers, or similar systems Strong knowledge of hydraulics, mechanical systems, and diesel engines Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and lockout/tagout procedures. Working Conditions Work is performed in an industrial environment with exposure to noise, dust, varying temperatures and weather conditions. Requires standing, climbing into and out of machines, lifting 50lbs regularly, twisting, bending, and walking on uneven ground. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory.
