Description The Millwright Lead is a working lead responsible for directing, coordinating, and actively participating in overnight millwright maintenance and repair activities. This position provides on-shift technical leadership and job coordination for the millwright team while performing hands-on millwright, welding, and fabrication work in an outdoor industrial environment. The Millwright Lead serves as the senior technical and coordination resource during the shift and acts as the primary point of communication between the overnight team and management. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Leadership & Shift Coordination Direct, prioritize, and assign daily maintenance and repair tasks serving as the senior maintenance authority to millwrights based on safety, urgency, and operational needs. Lead by example by working alongside the team in all aspects of millwright maintenance and fabrication work. Communicate shift activity, equipment status, downtime, and outstanding issues to the Operations and Facilities Maintenance Manager through written reports and verbal handoff. Provide on-the-job guidance and informal coaching to millwrights to support skill development and safe work practices. Equipment Maintenance & Repair Perform and assist with the maintenance and repair of processing and shredding equipment, including (but not limited to): Industrial shredders, Conveyors, Balers and shears, Material handlers, loaders, and skid steers, Tumblers, compressors, electric motors, and hydraulic systems Serve as a technical escalation resource for complex mechanical failures and unexpected repairs during the shift. Welding & Fabrication Hydraulics, Pneumatics & Electrical Safety & Compliance, including Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) knowledge and enforcement Documentation & Communication General Maintain flexibility to support production needs, including extended shifts, adjusted start or end times, and additional hours as required to address equipment failures, outages, or critical repairs. Provide maintenance support during weekends and holidays when necessary to ensure safe and continuous operation of production equipment. Operate personal lifts and material handling equipment as required. Perform rigging, lifting, and relocation of heavy machinery and components. Work outdoors in all weather conditions as required. Perform other job-related duties as assigned. Requirements Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Journeyman Millwright or equivalent experience preferred. Experience Minimum 5 years of industrial millwright experience in an outdoor or field-based industrial environment. Minimum 5 years of welding and fabrication experience, including equipment and structural repairs performed outside of a shop-only environment. Industrial shredder experience is strongly preferred, but not required for candidates with strong millwright and fabrication backgrounds. Skills and Knowledge Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills for heavy industrial equipment. Proven welding and fabrication capability in active plant or field conditions. Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems. Ability to read and interpret mechanical prints, schematics, and manuals. Leadership and communication skills sufficient to direct work and support team members. Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on overnight shifts. Reliable attendance and strong attention to detail. Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. WORKING CONDITIONS Primarily outdoor industrial work with exposure to weather, noise, dust, and heavy equipment. Requires physical labor, confined and elevated work, and flexible scheduling, including extended shifts, weekends, and holidays based on operational needs.
