JOB SUMMARY:

The Millwright Mechanic is responsible for executing both preventive and corrective maintenance activities on the facility’s equipment. This includes working with fixed and rotating equipment to ensure optimal operational efficiency, safety, and product quality. The role requires adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and supports continuous improvement initiatives within the Maintenance department.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in welding, pipe fitting, and oxy-fuel cutting.
  • Experience in rigging and pump repair.
  • Certified in Fall Arrest and Working at Heights.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid 433A Millwright License (mandatory).
  • High School Diploma required; post-secondary education is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a packaging or manufacturing environment.

MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE IN AT LEAST ONE OF THE FOLLOWING INDUSTRIES:

  • Food Industry
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Thermo Forming

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Capable of standing, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing, pulling, crouching, reaching, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Physically able to navigate stairs and travel throughout the plant frequently.
    Willingness and flexibility to work extended shifts (up to 12 hours per day) and cover alternate shifts as required (vacation, leave of absence, operational demand).

Responsibilities

OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on various equipment including pumps, mixers, insulation, packaging lines, compressors, blowers, gearboxes, boilers, extruders, heat exchangers, and filters.
  • Set up, troubleshoot, and maintain packaging machinery and equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues and conduct unscheduled equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Perform basic pipe fitting, plumbing, and pipe insulation tasks.
  • Interpret machine and equipment drawings to assist in problem-solving and equipment rebuilding.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve rotating equipment failures, and assist in determining root causes.
  • Conduct welding and fabrication tasks as required.
  • Overhaul different types of pumps.
  • Move and install heavy equipment safely.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Carry out other duties and projects as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and comply with provincial and local safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with Corporate SHE (Safety, Health, Environment) authorities to ensure compliance.
  • Complete and document safe work permits and risk assessments as required.
