About the Role Step into an exciting period of growth within Alcoa’s Mining Operations by joining us as a Mine Designer professional reporting to the Mine Design Principal. You’ll be part of a highly motivated, goal‑driven team, working Monday to Friday with the benefit of a leisure day every fourth week. You will be providing detailed pit and rehabilitation designs to the technical services department supporting both sites to meet performance targets, mine plans and budgets. Utilising your initiative and skills you will be required to seek out safe and cost-effective mining and/or rehabilitation designs while striving for continuous improvements. You provide advice on optimising the value of the mine’s resources. You prepare detailed pit designs and develop the associated ore and waste extraction plans. You create the initial rehabilitation profile before mining begins and design the final landscape after mining is complete. You communicate with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the mine plans and schedules are clearly understood. You support the development of the life‑of‑mine plan, the rolling 36‑month plan, and short‑term plans up to 12 weeks through detailed design work. What you can bring to the role You hold a degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Mine and Engineering Surveying, or an equivalent discipline, supported by experience in large open‑cut mining environments. You demonstrate strong analytical abilities and a high attention to detail. You have working knowledge of mine planning tools, ideally Minesight, Atlas, or Surpac. You communicate and engage effectively, interacting confidently with multi‑discipline technical teams and contributing as a strong team player. You communicate clearly across all levels of the organisation, delivering reports and content in the appropriate format for your audience, while identifying and driving continuous improvement opportunities. Established in 1976 and located east of North Dandalup in WA, it is the world’s second largest bauxite mine, supplying ore to Alcoa’s Pinjarra alumina refinery. Bauxite ore from Alcoa’s Huntly and Willowdale mines helps to produce almost half of Australia’s alumina and approximately 19 per cent of Australia’s aluminium.
