Rio Tinto Iron Ore Company of Canada’s Mine Technical Services team is seeking a Mine Engineer (Pit Development) to join their team supporting the mining operations in Labrador City. This key role will be responsible for liaising with various stakeholders and driving the execution of the 2-week plans in a safe and efficient manner.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer and working in a collaborative community within the Mine Technical Services, key responsibilities will include:

  • Create waste dump lift designs for the 2-week and quarterly planning time horizons
  • Create and manage auxiliary tasks list and pattern prep sheets to meet objectives in the 2-week plan
  • Generate and maintain elevation design files for machine guidance systems
  • Maintain the downhill haulage register and ensure ramp conformance through design and documentation
  • Generate weekly conformance reports for waste dumps and haul truck cycle times.
  • Reconcile drill pattern availability and escalate deviations in the Plan of the Day (PLOD) meetings
  • Support in-pit dewatering planning on the 2-week plan horizon
  • Generate and present blast event plans to optimize equipment downtime, minimize cable runs, and expedite post-blast recovery
  • Create designs to support infrastructure development, including HME haul roads, light vehicles roads and power distribution related earthworks
  • Support the Quarterly Planner with minor pit and dump design changes when required

This permanent position will be offered on a fly in, fly out work roster of 2 weeks on site and 2 weeks off, out of St. John’s or Montreal. If you are interested in relocating to Labrador City, relocation assistance is provided.
