SCHOOL MINIBUS DRIVER – JOB DESCRIPTION

Line-manager: Transport Manager
Salary: very competitive
Hours: 30 hours per week – term time only (Occasional weekend driving of boarders on day trips may also be required, together with airports run).

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • A full, clean driving licence with D1 category is a MUST.
  • Experience of working with young people would be desirable
  • The ability to relate well to children and adults

Responsibilities

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • School minibus drivers must be patient, level-headed, attentive to traffic and weather conditions while staying on schedule and ensuring the safety of passengers. Drivers are also responsible for maintaining a safe environment within the bus by enforcing rules of conduct and responding to emergencies. You would be expected to maintain good customer relations with parents, contribute to a professional atmosphere on the vehicle, carry out daily and weekly vehicle checks i.e., oil level, fuel, water etc., and to wash and clean the bus as required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pick up and drop off students at stops along established routes and at School. Effectively registering the students for every journey.
  • Transport students and faculty to special events, such as field trips or sporting events.
  • Have excellent driving skills and good knowledge of routes and geography.
  • Be polite and assertive with good interpersonal abilities.
  • Be able to work under pressure and deal effectively with any anti-social behaviour, reporting any incidents.
  • Be professional and courteous in all interactions whilst representing the School.
  • Act as an exemplary role-model in all aspects of language, demeanour, and appearance.
  • Be responsible and reliable. Drive skilfully and carefully, always within the legal speed limits while adhering to all rules in the highway-code, whether or not passengers are on-board the vehicle.
  • Have knowledge of health and safety issues.
  • Ensure that the vehicles are operating properly each day by testing brakes, tires and other components and reporting any faults for repair.
  • Attending training courses as required.
  • Comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and School Policies.
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by the Transport Manager, Reception staff and the Head.
  • Be professional and aware of the corporate image.
  • Present in a professional manner in appearance, including clean uniform, representing the image of the School as a wide-ranging image and advertising front for the School.
