Responsibilities

To support the teaching staff, to meet the academic, pastoral and other needs of pupils thereby enabling all pupils to achieve the full potential by; completing transport duties in accordance with an agreed schedule and to a required standard to ensure that pupils enjoy a comfortable, safe, clean and well maintained transport service and environment in which to work.
The main purpose of this function is to drive OPS vehicles in a lawful, responsible, safe and competent manner and supervise pupils to and from school.
To assist the Bursar in the provision of support arrangements for Orwell Park School.
Specific Responsibilities and tasks:

The job description does not form part of the contract of employment and may be varied in accordance with the demands of the role. The main duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Driving a minibus.
  • Responsible for the health and safety, comfort and welfare of pupils and staff.
  • Carrying out daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance (checking oil levels etc) and recording these.
  • Reporting any vehicle defects, faults, incidents and accidents to the Transport Coordinator.
  • Ensuring the vehicle is in a clean and roadworthy condition before and after use.
  • Refuelling the vehicles as required.
  • Liaising with service engineers about inspections and any maintenance that may be required.
  • Covering for absent colleagues.
  • Maintaining the School’s image; working attire should be worn at all times and kept in

a clean and tidy condition.

  • Working within health and safety guidelines and other guidelines that may be issued

from time-to-time.

  • Attending any relevant training courses as identified and agreed.
  • Undertake any other work as reasonably requested by the Bursar or Headmaster.
  • Be familiar with the School’s Safeguarding Policy and comply with its requirements to

safeguard and protect the welfare of children.

  • All OPS staff have a part to play in supporting the School’s ethos, understanding pupil

safeguarding requirements and promoting the best possible image to parents and prospective parents.
