QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of a Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) recognized Health Information Management (HIM) program.
  • Successfully challenged the CHIMA national Certification Exam / holds a valid CHIMA certificate and is a current member in good standing with CHIMA.
  • Must have at least 3 years experience in the Health Information Management field and demonstrated supervisory ability is required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency verified by testing in: Excel 75%
Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE

The Health Information Professional is responsible for ensuring that health record information is complete and accessible in accordance with departmental, regional and legislative requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Health Information Professional 4 is responsible for:

  • Supervising one or a combination of sections (coding and abstracting, release of information, transcription and clerical work) in Health Information Management.
  • Administer performance appraisals and assist staff in development and training.
  • Participating on provincial and internal committees, special projects as required.
  • May assist in health records software management.

OR

  • Data Analysis and utilization management activities in decision support.
  • Performing advanced duties including data analysis, interpretation and presentation/reporting of aggregate health data in combination with development of quality improvement plans and utilization management/funding strategies.

OR

  • Acts in a leadership role in areas of data security, data integrity, electronic health records.
  • HIM System Support and risk management and act as a resource to other health care professionals by providing leadership in health record practice, technology, project and committee work.
  • Participates on provincial and internal committees, special projects as required; and may assist in health records software management.
