The Opportunity
Join us as the Mission Lead to identify, prioritise, and drive important business initiatives with defined benefits and outcomes linked to the achievement of Vocus’ key objectives and strategic goals. Mission Leads manage a cross functional team in a matrix management model that drive delivery via IT, business and go to market teams.
As the Mission Lead you are accountable for mission and initiative budgets, and for the delivery of initiatives from ideation to release while meeting organisational governance, reporting, financial and risk management requirements in a complex, multi-platform technical environment.
You will work in an agile framework and should be experienced at cultivating a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Strong senior stakeholder management across multiple sponsors and business unit areas will be foundational to role success.
What you’ll be doing day-to-day

Mission Outcomes

  • Lead business analysts, delivery leaders, solution architects, user experience designers and change practitioners to deliver user-centric solutions that meet the needs and expectations of the customers and stakeholders and deliver business outcomes.
  • Work with Mission team, in the System of Work, to develop clear and unambiguous documentation for initiatives. This includes the identification of benefits, documentation & prioritisation of features, definition of acceptance criteria to allow the effective build and test of technical delivery both via Scrum and Non Scrum Delivery Teams. The Mission Lead needs to have a holistic view of the outcomes being delivered and drive the Mission team to efficiently and effectively deliver all non technical elements of initiatives including Go To Market, Business Readiness, Change and Training.
  • Support the tracking of benefits by Business Sponsors and Business Capability owners.
  • Work with the Delivery Lead to plan and oversee the delivery of the team’s initiatives using agile methodologies and practices in accordance with Vocus standard ways of working.
  • Manage the performance, quality, and outcomes of the team, including the quality of initiative, feature definition and acceptance criteria through the use of metrics and feedback tools, such as user research, analytics, and testing.
  • With the Delivery Leads, manage the budget, resources, and risks of the team, ensuring compliance with the organizational policies and standards.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with the customers, stakeholders, and partners, both internal and external, to understand their needs, expectations, and feedback, and to ensure their involvement and satisfaction throughout the delivery process.
  • Working with the Delivery Lead to plan the delivery of multiple, simultaneous initiatives through Scrums and non-scrum teams. Support the Delivery Lead, the Group Scrum Master, and other stakeholders to resolve delivery escalations.

Business Alignment

  • Work with key Mission Sponsors to define and communicate the vision, strategy, and direction of the Mission Team, ensuring alignment with the organizational goals and priorities. Participate as a matrix member of the Mission Sponsors SLT.
  • Work with Mission Sponsors and key business capability owners and SMEs to develop ideas into initiatives with defined scope and benefits and manage the prioritization of these within the mission. Present these initiatives at relevant governance forums.
  • Clarifying and communicating initiative vision and representing the stakeholders for the relevant Mission portfolio as the voice of the customer/user. Prioritizing the Mission backlog to align with the Vocus key objectives and strategic goals and adjusting scope based on benefit profile and feedback.

Ways of Working

  • Work with the GM Programs & other Mission Leads to support and promote the ways of working across Vocus and represent both the Mission and P&P at relevant cross company forums and delivery interlocks.
  • Coach and mentor the Mission team members, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for improvement and innovation, both within the Mission team and across the organization, to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of the digital delivery.
  • Collaboration with the Practice Leads regarding the coaching and mentoring of Mission Team members to optimise their performance.
  • Promote Vocus’ safety first culture and proactively monitor physical and psychological safety at work

What you’ll bring to this role

  • Demonstrated ability to lead business teams (or be responsible for delivery results as a business owner) in a complicated and changing agile setting. Experience in overseeing technology implementations, applications development and understanding of the agile software development lifecycle and methods an advantage.
  • A thorough knowledge of the Mission core outcomes and the ability to work with executive Sponsors to select and prioritise ideas and opportunities that match the organisation’s business strategy and goals.
  • Proven management experience at a senior level and strong leadership and motivational ability. Excellent communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills. The ability to work with a diverse group of ELT/SLT, business and delivery stakeholders to negotiate delivery outcomes and resolve disputes.
  • Commercial acumen and strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills, and the ability to adapt and respond to changing situations and priorities according to the commercial needs of the organisation.
  • High level of initiative, self-motivation, and accountability, and the ability to work independently and drive the outcomes of a team.
  • The ability to apply analytical skill and conceptual thinking to operations and system planning across a range of technologies and a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Project/Program Management or experience in the telecommunications sector or technology focussed organisation or significant business experience in the Mission area of account ability an advantage.
  • Sound understandings of all aspects of project cycle and program/project management is required.
  • Relevant experience in Scaled Agile, Business Process/Service Management - eg ITIL, Six Sigma an advantage
  • Experience working with consultancies and other service providers to deliver programs an advantage.
  • Experience in managing third parties in developing and delivering statements of work by third parties in an enterprise delivery context an advantage.
  • Previous experience inleading initiatives within a telecommunications / technology related business, with experience in managing budgets of up to $10m
  • Demonstrate an agile or growth mindset in approaching challenges and changes
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead a teams in a complex matrix reporting environment with multiple projects and interrelated dependencies
