About Us Evergreen Fire/Rescue, founded in 1948, provides around the clock emergency medical, rescue, and fire suppression services along with community risk reduction services to nearly 26,000 residents across more than 120 square miles. Led by a Fire Chief and the Board of Directors of the Evergreen Fire Protection District, EFR consists of six divisions: Administration, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Fire Operations, Community Risk Reduction, Maintenance, and Wildland. The volunteers and employees of each division are committed to providing exceptional service to their community of residents, business owners, employees, and visitors. About the Position The Mitigation Specialist will generate, schedule and conduct home assessments through the EFR Mitigation Program. The job’s direction will be in support of the Community Wildfire Protection Plan. The Mitigation Specialist may participate in inspection/assessment coordination, tracking with the Plan Unit Ambassadors and EFR’s Mitigation Program. The Mitigation Specialist may assist with public education though EFR’s Mitigation Program outreach, Plan Unit work and events, the Ambassador Program and HOA coordination. Core Responsibilities Include: The duties of this position may change based on the needs of the district and additional direction from the Wildland Project Coordinator. Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Conduct comprehensive home hardening and defensible space Home Assessments in wildfire-prone areas during times conducive to community needs. Evaluate structural features, landscaping, and surrounding vegetation to identify fire risks. Provide customized mitigation recommendations, including building material upgrades, ember-resistant construction, and vegetation management. Educate homeowners, HOAs, and communities about wildfire risk reduction and home hardening best practices. Document findings through digital reports, photographs, etc. Maintain accurate records of assessments, recommendations, and follow-up actions. Support agency wildfire mitigation programs, outreach events, and grant-related reporting. Stay current on wildfire science, building codes, defensible space regulations, etc. Other duties as assigned Requirements Core Competencies for Success: Communications: Effectively communicate with team members, agencies, and the general public to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Assist in wildfire mitigation public education. Customer Service: Schedule and conduct home inspections and assessments as requested by community citizens for onsite visits utilizing the EFR Mitigation Program, responding in a timely way to requests for inspections and assessments. Teamwork: Coordinate with partners in the program (Plan Unit Ambassadors) for enhanced resident participation. Leadership: Demonstrates initiative and role model behavior, contributing with honesty, respect, and integrity. Supports vision and values in daily work and actions.
