Description

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Safe and legal operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Safe and timely transportation of concrete from origin to destination.
  • Proper loading and unloading of concrete to assure safety and minimal risk of damage to equipment and danger to persons.
  • Professional representation of the company and the trucking industry through responsible driving and professional appearance.
  • Must be courteous and respectful to all customers.
  • Must be able to work effectively and cooperatively with other employees.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid Georgia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) — Class “A” or “B”.
  • Must maintain a good driving record, and promptly report any violations to Plant Manager.
  • Must have the ability to read, write and perform simple mathematical calculations with mental ability to handle receipts, read maps, road signs, maintain logs, etc.
  • Must have working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems.
  • Must have knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving and inspection and maintenance.
  • Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
  • Must satisfactorily pass a drug test.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 10 hours.
  • Must be able to shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals.
  • Must be able to perform occasional crouching to handle unloading equipment.
  • Must be able to enter and exit the vehicle’s cab 8 to 10 times a day. Cab level is generally from 36 to 66 inches above ground level, with entry and exit achieved with the assistance of various configurations of steps and hand holds; also requires occasional bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching and balancing.
  • Must be able to perform occasional heavy lifting. Overhead lifting to a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to push/pull from moderate to maximum efforts.
  • Must have adequate body balance to climb onto a ladder up to 12 feet above ground.
  • Must be able to place the body in low to the ground positions to perform certain functions such as checking tire pressure, brakes, and other inspection duties. (Kneeling)
  • Must be able to bend, mostly to perform duties in kneeling, above. Repeated bending at the waist and lifting at the same time is required for loading-unloading duties.
  • Must be able to reach/twist in conjunction with pushing, pulling, climbing, kneeling, and bending.
  • Must have free movement of the wrist and hands.
  • Must be able to spend at least 3 or 4 hours of standing and short periods of the day walking on surfaces such as concrete, wood, metal, and sometimes on slippery and wet surfaces.
  • Must be able to climb into and out of vehicles, fuel vehicles, and check engine oil and coolant levels.
Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY OR PURPOSE:

  • To transport and deliver concrete by driving diesel-powered truck to job sites.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Perform frequent lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying of accessory equipment used in the transport of concrete.
  • Inspect truck for defects and safe operating condition before, during, and after trips and submit a written report on the condition of the truck at the end of each trip or tour of duty and give to Plant Manager.
  • Maintain appearance of truck: inside and out; Responsible for keeping inside of drum free of concrete buildup (such as washing blades and hopper after unloading concrete).
  • Ensure all delivery tickets are properly completed including arrival, departure, and return time as well as any additional water added to load.
  • Ensure truck is always properly fueled before leaving for the day.
  • Report directly to job site after truck has been loaded and directly back to plant after job is complete.
  • Inspect job site for obstructions or soft ground conditions that could result in property or equipment damage.
  • Apply knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds in difficult situations, such as heavy traffic and inclement weather.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and comply with all Federal, State, and local regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
  • Promptly report any delays due to breakdowns, weather, traffic conditions, or other emergencies, or in the event of irregularities relating to pick up or delivery of concrete.
  • Promptly report all accidents to Plant Manager and/or Safety Manager.
  • Promptly let manager know when service is due on truck or if there is a problem with truck.
