Description The Medical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of routine and specialized chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic laboratory tests. This includes adding reagents or indicator solutions to specimens, processing samples through operations such as heating, filtering, or titrating, preparing slides for microscopic analysis, observing reactions, color changes, or precipitates, and analyzing specimens using microscopes or automated equipment. Key responsibilities include overseeing instrument calibration, reviewing quality control results, ensuring linearity of reportable ranges, developing and validating new procedures, troubleshooting instrumentation, performing scheduled maintenance, and writing laboratory procedures according to NACCLS standard format. Note: Scheduled hours are subject to change based on hospital needs. Employees may be required to work weekends, evenings, or other shifts as needed. Duties and Responsibilities Maintains thorough working knowledge of phlebotomy principles, specimen collection and handling, laboratory procedures and instrumentation across all sections (Hematology, Chemistry, Blood Bank, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, and Microbiology), Quality Control principles, and Preventive Maintenance procedures. Performs assigned tests with accuracy and reports results in a timely manner. Maintains neat and organized work habits. Communicates effectively and courteously with patients, physicians, coworkers, and visitors. Follows written and verbal instructions; handles unusual or difficult situations with professionalism and tact. Remains flexible with scheduling, including willingness to work different shifts and take call as required. Maintains professional appearance (neat, clean, and appropriate dress). Complies with all laboratory and hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates age-specific knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and effective care for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Cooperates with other departments and staff to support the mission, vision, and goals of the organization. Understands and adheres to the organization’s Compliance Policy and Code of Conduct. Reports any observed or suspected unethical, illegal, or questionable conduct to the Compliance Coordinator. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Education: Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory Technician (or equivalent) training program. Must hold current certification from a National Registry Agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT, or equivalent) or be eligible and actively intending to sit for the certification examination.
