The Role You Play - Mobile Crisis Peer Support Specialist As a Mobile Crisis Peer Support Specialist at Pawnee, you’ll play a critical role in helping individuals navigate behavioral health crises with dignity and support. Drawing from your own lived experience, you’ll provide hope and connection to those in need—working as part of a mobile response team to meet people where they are and guide them toward recovery. Key Responsibilities: Use lived experience to engage individuals in crisis, provide emotional support, and build rapport Partner with a case manager to form a mobile response team, delivering on-site crisis support and diverting individuals from emergency rooms or the justice system Assist with de-escalation, safety planning, and linkage to appropriate behavioral health or medical services Educate individuals and their support systems on recovery, mental health, and available resources Participate in follow-up care, ensuring continuity of support and connection to services Answer incoming crisis line calls with professionalism, empathy, and adherence to de-escalation protocols. Conduct basic mental health triage, assess risk, and route calls appropriately to clinical staff when needed. Complete timely documentation, attend supervision, and uphold ethical and agency standards To be successful in this role, you must be in stable recovery from a behavioral health condition, as defined by Pawnee Mental Health. Peer Support Certification is required or must be obtained. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are also needed. Requirements Qualifications: Required A High School diploma or equivalent. Current or past life experience as a primary consumer of mental health services. Preference will be given in employment to candidates with Kansas certification as a Peer Specialist (CPS), however, in any case the incumbent must become certified within one year of employment. Oral and written communication skills using the English language. Basic personal computer skills which enable the entry, retrieval and use of electronic data. A valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance maintained in accordance with Pawnee policy and procedure is required. Preferred Experience with Microsoft Office Software. Results of criminal and all other applicable background checks must meet the approval of Pawnee Mental Health Services.
