Description
Description Position Summary The Modern Workplace Administrator is a hands-on technical role responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our organization's modern workplace technology environment. This position owns the technology stack that enables our workforce to operate productively from any location—managing endpoints, network infrastructure, and cloud services with a focus on automation, security, and seamless user experience. This role requires both an engineering mindset and hands-on execution. The position demands someone who can architect scalable solutions, automate routine operations, and maintain systems proactively rather than reactively. The successful candidate will embrace our modern workplace philosophy: technology should work seamlessly regardless of where users are located, and when issues occur, rapid remediation or device replacement gets users productive again quickly rather than extended troubleshooting cycles. Operating Philosophy Our IT environment is built on modern management principles: Cloud-First Management: Devices are managed through Microsoft Intune and Entra ID, enabling configuration, security, and support from anywhere without requiring physical access or on-premises infrastructure dependencies. Zero-Touch Deployment: New devices are provisioned through Windows Autopilot with pre-configured policies, applications, and security settings—users can unbox and start working with minimal IT intervention. Standardization Over Customization: Consistent configurations across all endpoints reduce complexity, simplify troubleshooting, and enable rapid device replacement when issues occur. Automation First: Repetitive tasks are automated through scripting and workflow tools, freeing time for higher-value engineering work and proactive improvements. Rapid Resolution: When devices fail or issues persist, the goal is getting users productive quickly—often through device swap and remote restore rather than extended on-site troubleshooting. Core Responsibilities Modern Endpoint Management Own the complete device lifecycle using Microsoft Intune: enrollment, configuration profiles, compliance policies, application packaging and deployment, and security baselines Design and maintain Windows Autopilot deployment profiles for zero-touch provisioning; continuously refine the out-of-box experience to minimize user friction and IT involvement Monitor device health, compliance status, and security posture through Intune and Defender dashboards; proactively identify and remediate issues before users are impacted Implement and maintain conditional access policies that enforce security requirements while enabling productive work from any location Manage printer infrastructure including cloud printing solutions and driver deployment; minimize printer-related support burden through standardization Maintain hardware inventory and coordinate procurement; manage spare device pool for rapid replacement scenarios Network Infrastructure Administer network infrastructure across office and warehouse locations including switches, wireless access points, and firewalls using cloud-based management platforms Design and implement network segmentation, security policies, and access controls aligned with modern security principles Monitor network performance, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and maintain documentation of network topology and configurations Manage VPN and remote access solutions; ensure secure, reliable connectivity for remote and traveling users Coordinate with ISPs and vendors for circuit management, hardware support, and issue escalation Microsoft 365 & Identity Services Administer Microsoft 365 tenant in coordination with IT leadership: user lifecycle management, licensing optimization, and service configuration Manage Entra ID identity services including user provisioning, group management, conditional access policies, and security configurations Support and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive); resolve issues efficiently and escalate appropriately Maintain integration between cloud identity services and any remaining on-premises resources Automation & Continuous Improvement Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts, Power Automate flows, and other automation to eliminate repetitive manual tasks Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend improvements; stay current with Microsoft 365, Intune, and security developments Provide technical input on IT strategy, vendor selection, and architecture decisions Serve as escalation point for complex technical issues; know when to troubleshoot versus when to replace and restore Requirements Technical Expertise Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Intune: device enrollment methods, configuration profiles, compliance policies, application deployment (Win32, LOB, Microsoft Store), and security baselines Demonstrated experience implementing and managing Windows Autopilot for zero-touch deployment scenarios Working knowledge of Entra ID (Azure Active Directory): user/group management, conditional access, and integration with Intune Solid understanding of Microsoft 365 administration and troubleshooting Strong networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, wireless networking, VPN technologies, and firewall concepts Experience with cloud-managed network platforms (Meraki strongly preferred; Ubiquiti, Aruba, or similar acceptable) PowerShell scripting proficiency for automation and administrative tasks Experience 3+ years of experience in endpoint management, systems administration, or infrastructure roles with demonstrated progression toward modern cloud-based management approaches Candidates with fewer years but strong demonstrated expertise in Intune, Autopilot, and modern management methodologies will be considered—practical skills and learning trajectory matter more than tenure Critical Attributes Self-Direction: Ability to independently prioritize work, manage time effectively, and drive projects to completion Engineering Mindset: Thinks in terms of scalable solutions and automation rather than one-off fixes; asks "how do I prevent this from happening again?" not just "how do I fix this now?" Continuous Learning: Genuine curiosity about technology; actively stays current with platform changes and seeks out better ways to accomplish objectives Pragmatic Problem-Solving: Knows when to troubleshoot deeply versus when to swap equipment and restore from backup; prioritizes user productivity over technical perfection Communication Skills: Explains technical concepts clearly to non-technical users; documents work thoroughly Preferred Qualifications Microsoft certifications: MD-102 (Endpoint Administrator), MS-102 (Microsoft 365 Administrator), SC-300 (Identity and Access Administrator), or AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) Experience with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint and security baseline implementation Familiarity with Power Platform (Power Automate, Power Apps) for workflow automation Experience supporting distributed workforce across multiple physical locations Exposure to Azure infrastructure services (networking, virtual machines, storage) Background in logistics, distribution, or similar operational environments Work Environment & Expectations Primary work location is office-based with periodic visits to warehouse facilities Ability to lift and transport equipment up to 50 lbs Occasional after-hours availability for maintenance windows, critical issues, or project deployments Valid driver's license for travel between company locations Growth & Development This position offers significant ownership and impact for someone who wants to build and run a modern IT environment. We invest in professional development through certification support, training resources, and conference attendance. As our technology capabilities mature and the organization grows, this role will have opportunity to shape IT strategy, lead technology initiatives, and potentially grow into expanded responsibilities.
