Description

Overview:
The Mohs Technician is responsible for responsible for processing, embedding, cutting, and staining tissue specimens using frozen section techniques to support Mohs micrographic surgery. This role is critical in ensuring rapid, high-quality slide preparation for accurate diagnosis and optimal patient outcomes. Mohs technician also supports various aspects of laboratory organization and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare frozen tissue specimens, embed, cut (microtomy), and stain slides following Mohs histology protocols.
  • Accession, label, prepare, and file slides for accurate patient record keeping and record retention.
  • Ensure slides meet high-quality standards for histologic evaluation and accurate pathological review.
  • Properly handle and maintain the laboratory environment and equipment, including cryostats, microtomes, microscopes, and staining stations.
  • Prepare and maintain chemical reagents and other testing materials ensuring adherence to QA/QC protocols
  • Within appropriate scope of practice, effectively identify and troubleshoot problems that may affect slide quality and surgeon’s diagnostic processes.
  • Maintain and manage inventory of lab supplies.
  • Maintain documentation of lab SOPs and QA/QC logs as required by CLIA and clinic/laboratory.
  • May room patients and document all vital information prior to the exam with the clinician.
  • May scribe information for the clinician.
  • Adhere to compliance and completion of compliance training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree in related field, or completion of science courses from an accredited institution, preferred.
  • Previous training or experience in a clinic and lab environment preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Must have effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity, ethical judgment, and confidentiality when handling sensitive data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required. Must be able to learn new software quickly.
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with staff, leadership, and the public.
  • Ability to use time productively and contribute to high levels of company operational efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
