JOB TITLE:  Surgical Technician $1000 Sign On Bonus Monday-Thursday 7:30AM-5:30PM @ $30.00-$38.00 Must be willing to travel to Decatur-Ash, Mattoon, and Urbana JOB SUMMARY: Provide clinical expertise to ensure all patients receive high quality, efficient care. Ensure direct patient communication, critical thinking, and problem solving. Work directly with Providers in the clinical setting. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES  Essential Responsibilities * Assist Providers with patient office visits which include, rooming patients, scribes notes for Physician and interviews patients, recording vital signs including pulse rate, blood pressure, height, and weight, prepare specimens for lab work, obtain consents, and enter all medical history in patient electronic medical record. * Assist Providers with biopsies and other minor procedures as directed by the Provider. * Assist Providers in skin cancer removal surgeries, including closing surgical sites based on provider planning and directive, which can include buried and top sutures or staples. * Prepare and reviews patient prior to patient’s appointment. Reviews charts for completeness ensuring all required information is included; notes any deficiencies and utilizes all resources internal as well as external. * Perform administrative tasks, including form completions, prescription refills, referrals, and patient educational material. * Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors. * Manage autoclave and cleaning instruments for Dermatology. * Answer phones, takes messages and troubleshoots patient calls. * Assist with scheduling, rescheduling, confirming appointments and verifying patient demographics/insurance information. * Obtain prior authorizations. * Responsible for medication management. * Provide clinical leadership, specifically guiding the Medical Assistants and other clerical staff as it relates to patient care. * Train others as needed. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  * Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and medication use  * Knowledge of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods * Sound understanding of all federal and state healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and OSHA * Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems * Must have prescriptive authorization * Must be proficient with medical instruments and equipment required by the work * Communicate effectively, in verbal and written form, with medical partners at various levels, patients, family members, physicians and representatives of the community * Be positive, open, and flexible to learning new skills for various procedures * Maintain license through ongoing Continuing Medical Education credits, as required This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Exact tasks and responsibilities may vary by location; employees are subject to the direction of management at the office, as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the office and/or organization.  POSITION QUALIFICATIONS  Minimum Qualifications * Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program (CAAHEP or ABHES organization) * 1+ years’ experience assisting surgical procedures in a medical office or operating room setting * Must possess critical thinking skills, flexibility, and a positive attitude * Strong organizational skills * Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification * Some travel required to other clinical office as needed Preferred Qualifications * Hold registration with IDFPR as a registered surgical technologist * Experience performing simple to complex surgical closures under the guidance of a provider. * Familiarity of third-party payer systems: Medicare, Medicaid, commercial and Department of Health programs.
