MISSION

Purpose of the job

We are seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatician/Molecular Geneticist to join our team supporting salmon and trout breeding programs worldwide. You will be part of the Salmonids R&D team within our business unit and will be based in the Netherlands. In this role, you will bridge molecular biology and computational analysis, contributing to both day-to-day operations and our long-term research agenda. You effectively translate academic tools into practical, implementable solutions that drive innovation in our breeding programs. With strong interpersonal skills, you collaborate with colleagues at the Hendrix Genetics’ Research and Technology Centre and with our academic partners. You are also confident representing our company at client meetings and scientific conferences.Key Accountabilities

  • Support day-to-day operation of breeding programs
  • Review and improve the current list of genetic markers used in selective breeding of salmonid species
  • Execute computational workflows to identify key biological insights that can be used in breeding programs
  • Further development of parentage assignment pipelines and technologies
  • Actively maintain and expand expertise in molecular genetics, genomics and statistics
  • Representation of Hendrix Genetics as leading technology provider for salmonid breeding

REQUIREMENTS

The position requires a strong background in bioinformatics with an emphasis on molecular systems. The successful candidate is expected to run existing bioinformatics analytical workflows, derive biological insights from complex datasets, and assist quantitative geneticists in bringing results to routine implementation. Basic understanding of aquaculture breeding programs and quantitative genetics is considered an advantage. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively and work closely with geneticists, senior management, and customers. The role involves regular international travel, typically ranging from a few days to up to two weeks per trip.
