POSITION SUMMARY DEFINITION Under general supervision, the Monitor Observer performs timely identification and reporting of cardiac rhythm status of the monitored patients on the unit in order to protect them from life threatening arrythmias and cardiac arrest; performs other related duties as required; assists with answering telephones and patient call lights courteously and in a timely manner. Helps to ensure timely communication among patients, staff members, physicians, and other personnel. POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way would be: Education Graduation from high school or equivalency program. Successful completion of a basic arrhythmia course or telemetry technician class as evidenced by certification upon completion. Experience     No experience required.     Previous experience preferred. Licensure/Certification Basic Arrhythmia Certification or Telemetry Certification required BLS MUST be from AHA KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES Knowledge of:     Various types of telemetry monitoring equipment.     Basic arrhythmia interpretation.     Basic anatomy and physiology of the heart.     Abnormal Rhythms indicating an impending serious event. How to respond in an emergency Ability to: Operate equipment used in telemetry monitoring. Understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, standards, and procedures. Keep abreast of developments in the field of expertise, seeking continuing education within the field. Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Prepare and disseminate necessary reports and records. AGE-SPECIFIC COMPENTENCY Maintains, demonstrates and is assessed on the knowledge and skills necessary to provide physical, psychosocial and cultural needs appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit.
